A 56-year-old weightlifter in Modesto reportedly shot himself after dropping a dumbbell on a bullet.
Modesto police officers responded to the call Wednesday night and found the man wounded in the shoulder.
He told police he was lifting dumbbells when he accidentally dropped one on a .22 caliber bullet in his apartment.
Police found a shell casing of the bullet, but no gun. Neighbors also did not report a shooter fleeing the area.
The man’s account was strange, but it is possible that when the weight fell on the rim of the bullet, it caused it to discharge, said Officer Chris Adams.
“I’ve never heard of such a thing, but some have,” Adams said.
The man was taken to the hospital to be treated for the non-life threatening wound.
Police plan to further investigate.

At home exercising when he should have been in a pub having a beer with his mates! ;)

Well, since the weightlifter presumably bared his arms before he set the dumbbell on the shell...
