OT: Anyone lose a friend over a political disagreement?

how do you live in a liberal place and are surrounded by republicans? that's weird. maybe you got a bad draw or something?

now who does that sound like ... hmm :)

darla, you should just troll your co-workers and make them go eplieptic. Go super hard core liberal. Just sit around one day drinking coffee and let out a sigh and be like "sigh... i can't wait until the people seize the means of production. I really wish obama wasn't so right wing.." etc.

No not coworkers. I don't even have coworkers. These are people I network with. Most of them are business owners, or they work in finance. A lot of them are attorneys. They make a lot of money. Grind, wealthy white people skew conservative no matter where you live. As to why they do it...maybe they assume almost everyone agrees with them. They seem very angry. Ive no idea what they have to be so angry about. But you'd be amazed how often these people bring up politics. It is completely different than being in an office. I stood around an actual watercooler during the Clinton impeachment and the only thing I remember is a few salacious jokes about cigars. This is a completely different dynamic than that and I see now that no one here really knows what I am talking about. Sf would. He might be the only one here who does the kind of networking I do. Of course he is no doubt one of the pricks I'm talking about. Also I network with these people to get business referred to me. I spent a lot of money and time even getting accepted into this group. I get business referred to me that is very difficult to gain access to throu other means. So social skills come into play here. This means I cant pretend to be a communist among other things.

Also I am one of only two women in this group. I am in the middle of a literal boys club. I am bringing in a lot of new business from this group. But it's a boys club filled with wealthy white professional men. Of course they are cons. If you think it doesn't take some skill to navigate that water...it does. Luckily I have a 1000 watt smile and schmoozing these types is second nature to me. I have told only one of them that I am a dem. I would certainly tell no one I am to the left of the democratic party. And most of them seem too angry about politics for me to even consider saying I'm a dem. I don't like to talk politics irl other than with very close friends and don't know why they do. I mostly just ignore it or sometimes I have fun with them by playing their stereotype of a woman and claiming I don't look at politics. I say it in some stupid way like that too, oh I don't look at the papers. I could skewer them, they would never guess that, and I admit I do SOMETIMES enjoy being subversive in the Time honored way women before me without my freedom did...by utilizing repressive female stereotypes against the men who hold them. Who never knew.

So I got an email from my cousin. He is on fb with my aunt's right wing husband. He's not my uncle because he's her third husband. She's right wing too. (Those right wingers get married a lot, I guess they believe so much in the sanctity of marriage they want to keep sanctifying it? ) Kind of funny in light of this thread, but what a freaking nuclear explosion went off there! My aunt's husband is a teabagger. You know, an old right wing fuck, right? And my cousin is I don't even know how to describe him - his closest doppelganger here would be asshat. I don't think he's a LIbertarian, but he's a conspiracy theorist who believes Obama was born in Kenya, global climate change is a hoax, evolution is a hoax, feminisim is a hoax, but economically he kinda skews socialist. So a total hodge podge. But he respects Ron Paul as "the last honest man in politics". So the teabagger writes this:

"It's over for the old man, there will be no Ron Paul revolution.."

This was right after that convention kerfuffle with the Paulites walking out.

Now he is a real asshole and he was attempting to incite my aunt's son who IS a Libertarian, and my cousin too because he respects Paul. SO anyway, my cousin responds:

"do me a favor defriend me"

"just shows the HATE that
you conspiracy theorist have for anyone who doesn't agree with you.. But
there will still be, NO Ron Paul resurrection he's DEAD! "

Well, a complete meltdown happened after that. IT's like my asshole aunt's asshole husband shot an arrow at my cousin, and my cousin responded by launching a nuclear attack! I can't even post what happened after that, but my cousin emailed it all to me, and I was like, ummm....I think you went too far? I mean, he quoted some guy, some ex-military guy, who wrote an article claiming that all teabaggers should be put in concentration camps! I don't like teabaggers, but concentrations camps? I told my mother, ma, this thing is going to explode and your two sisters are definitely going to fight about it, stay out of it! I gave her the heads up. This wouldn't be the first time my two aunts mixed it up really badly about politics.

Me, I just smile, nod, and keep my mouth shut! Even when one of them defriended me on fb, I smile, nod, keep my mouth shut. Life is too short, and too awesome for this crap.

Dixie I have to tell you, i never knew this. I just tested it now. I always did this manually. I was wondering how that moron SF managed to get so many different quotes in one post.

I did it like a true moron... cut and paste... I did not know that feature was there.
