Our house was hit by a tornado last night...

LOL. My daughter certainly thought so. She's home from college and got treated to a new adventure.

Normally I would be outside taking pictures of the tornado, but when they are right on top of you that is not really an option.
We get a rare localized tornado here. Small sections will have trees down and minimal damage. Kind of fascinating. One side of the road is devastated, and the other is fine.

When Sandy hit I'd say that was the closest we had. I have a huge ash tree in the yard, and during bad storms is sways and might lean about 10 degrees.

During Sandy, that sucker was leaning about 35 degrees.

It broke 10 total windows, some water got in, our cars, even the one in the car port, have all been damaged...

All our animals rode the storm out well, all the people are fine, just damage to the roof, the cars and the windows...

*sigh*

When it rains, it pours...

Glad you came out fairly ok. Out of respect of your troubles, I won't make any climate change declarations.

Damn, that's rough. I feel ya.

If it's the big tornados I'd be thinking about a container shelter or something.

We don't get big tornados here.

Wind and hail damage has a higher deductible, but they do indeed cover it. I'll pay the deductible and get all of the windows replaced at once, the things are old and there is no way they would be able to match the ones that didn't break with new windows. So, all new windows, new roof, some new windows on the long barn/garage, maybe even a new door on that same garage/barn... The tall barn needs one window only.

Get double glazed windows, more expensive but worth it.

Just saw this. Sorry you got hit. I have been flooded but tornados and fires arre worse. Glad you are all ok.

Indeed. Though I now have to put plywood over some windows. Our house is going to be DARK... Especially the living room. It's going to look like we live in a cave.

Scary as hell, isn’t it? I’ve been in three tornadoes in my life. The first two were near misses and no on was hurt and little property damage was done but it certainly was very frightening.

The third one I was working in a Steel plant in Arkansas and it was a direct hit. Fortunately it was a relatively small tornado. My boss and I were driving out of the plant on a rainy day and just as we made a turn on the road and approached the exit gate at the plant we saw the Tornado a short distance up the road. We stopped at the guard shack and dived inside as it was a solid brick structure and the only cover available. We both dove under the desk in the shack we grabbed the steel pipe that was supporting the desk and then the tornado hit. It blew the glass door on both side of the shack and the wind rushed inside the shack so fast that for a moment it lifted me off the ground as I held onto that steel pipe for dear life.

A few moments later it hit the steel plant and surprisingly did little damage to the plant. I’d did knock my bosses car over on its side and a tractor trailer that had two 10 ton coils of steel strapped onto it. They must have built that guard house to be bomb proof, thank God. Just our bad luck that we had obstructed vision until we turned the corner of the road near the gate. The security guards must have seen it well before we did as they took cover inside the plant.

The weird thing was it all happened so fast I didn’t have time to be scared but several minutes afterwards boy did I get a serious case of the shakes. I don’t ever want to experience a tornado ever again let alone ever experience a hurricane.

Glad everyone came out safe. Sure does suck about the property damage.

That seriously sucks, Damo, and we're all very sorry to hear it.
We're very glad the living creatures, human and otherwise, survived the disaster.

Now lets hope that your insurance company does what it should.

If it were up to me,
all insurance of every kind
would be taken out of the private sector and nationalized
because those bastards are the biggest crooks in America.

Good luck. You've already put up with enough aggravation.

It was the noise... Holy smokes it was LOUD. And hearing the glass breaking I thought my whole house was going to be destroyed. These old houses seem to be built well though.

Did you know it was coming? Were you all in the bathtub or inner closet for the fun?

My wife is scared of tornadoes so I bought her an above ground shelter from Home Depot.

Got a good deal on it since it was the outside display model: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Survive...ft-x-6-ft-Tornado-Shelter-SASAM0406/204999911

We went down to the basement. Getting the dogs down there was a challenge, for some reason the dogs just do not want to go down there, but once they are down there they have no problems... I went back upstairs to watch it all from my library which is in the center of the house and windowless.

FYI mother nature is not fucking around with our bullshit anymore
