Ozzie Osbourne died

The first band to use distortion was the guys who did 'Rocket 88' back in the early 1950's. One of their amps broke on the way to a gig and they had to use it anyway. Then there was the jazz fusion guys, Miles Davis , etc., and then Hendrix, in 1965-66.

Ozzie seemed like he was a nice enough person in real life. Saw an episode or two of his 'reality show'; his kids didn't turn out too badly, considering they lived in LA. Don't care for 'metal' as music, but if it made him happy and from having to get a real job more power to him. RIP

Was he comfortable with the fact that he took a piss on the Alamo?

“We all have done things in our lives that we regret,” Ozzy said at the time. “I am deeply honored that the people of San Antonio have found it in their hearts to have me back. I hope that this donation will show that I have grown up.”

The Kinks were the first to distort their instruments, and the Yardbirds original guitar solos, and both predated either group you mentioned
The distinctive heavy metal sound Sabbath achieved wasn't just based on distortion. They tuned the guitars down to a lower key to give it a darker, more menacing sound. That's what makes Black Sabbath instantly recognizable from Led Zeppelin, Steppenwolf, and other hard rock acts of the era.

Someone has since told me that the story is not true but I have seen a claim that when Randy Rhoads died Ozzy had to have two guitarists because they could not find anyone who could do what he did.

I wouldn't say better.....A bigger fan base

KISS has/had a huge fan base and they suck
hard to argue that a group that has sold as many albums and played as many venues as KISS and fo as long as they did suck

They may not be your cup of tea, but they are rock legends.

Peter Criss doesn’t get the credit he deserves as a drummer. Ace Frehley the same. Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons were probably the least musically gifted of the original four but they had other attributes that made the band legendary.

They took live performances to the next level. Gene Simmons is probably one of the most brilliant marketers in rock history.

Lastly, they created one of the all time rock anthems in rock and roll history.

I am always amused by music “purists” who pass judgement this way or that. Why can’t people just say “not my cup of tea” and move on.

Taylor Swift is not my cup of tea, but I could never credibly say she sucks. Her millions of fans would discredit that statement.
