Ozzy Osbourne died

Despite his act, he was a very charitable person and fought for animal rights. I believe I recall him visiting the White House to promote that very thing back when W. was president.
Fighting for animal rights raises him in my estimation. But OTOH he tried to kill his wife when he was under the influence, and ended up spending six months in medical detention... meaning a hospital? Guess he was a mixed bag.

It was a test to see if the term is so readily understood that even AI understands it, and it was. How does it feel to so poorly understand music that even simple terms become difficult for you?
Nah, it is a stupid definition, genres aren’t defined by the way the look and the length of their hair

You can keep saying that, but it was metal, power chords, etc. They also premiered their album a full year before Sabbath. Sabbath didn't create the sound, though they were instrumental, along with Zeppelin in cementing in a whole new genre of music. This is a bit like saying Elvis started rock music... He certainly contributed, and was "the King" but he didn't create it.

I said nothing about Elvis. But Elvis did release "That's Alright" in 1954 - 3 years before Chuck Berry put out Johnny B. Goode. But Elvis included "Hound Dog" on the album which was from Sister Rosetta Tharpe - who though considered Jazz, could lay claim to first in Rock & Roll. Dunno, Elvis was sure close to the first.

Hair metal? What the hell is hair metal?

I understand speed metal, but get real, all it ultimately is is playing the guitar at a faster rhythm

The Sound of Hair Metal

The sound of hair metal is characterized by a combination of hard rock riffing and melodic hooks. These bands often utilized distorted guitar riffs, fast drumming, and solos that became a defining aspect of the genre. However, the key difference between traditional heavy metal and hair metal is the melodic sensibility. Hair metal songs often featured catchy, anthemic choruses and hooks designed to be radio-friendly.

Many hair metal songs were written with the aim of achieving mainstream success, and the genre became known for its accessibility. Songs often had simple yet effective structures, with repetitive choruses and verses that were easy for audiences to sing along to. This made hair metal particularly popular with the youth culture of the time, as the music was both fun and easy to consume.

Additionally, many hair metal bands employed the use of keyboards and synthesizers, which added a layer of texture to their music. These keyboard elements helped to create a more polished sound, which further differentiated hair metal from its heavier counterparts like thrash metal or death metal. This combination of rock and pop elements was part of what made hair metal so widely appealing.

Just how fucking old ARE you?

What a crock of over intellectual bullshit, “melodic sensibility,” come on

Tell us how Motley Crue, Twister Sister, and Bon Jovi are all “hair metal” groups

Old enough not to buy into corporate rock especially one pretending to be something else

Above is quoted a guy desperately trying to be relevant in a world where he doesn't understand the simplest terms of the language in the conversation in which he is trying to participate. Rather than read the article posted he's decided to double down on "What do you mean, "hair metal""?

He could learn something, but instead insists he must participate regardless of how ignorant he may be.

The guy is an idiot.

The guy is an idiot.
Indeed. When I'm outmatched in a conversation I usually listen rather than speak, and I don't remember a time I have been quite that level of outmatched. Sometimes I stand there and listen so I can learn.... this guy?

Archives: No. All your articles by people who know more than me... WRONG... lol

Cheers that you admit that you are sometimes bested.

A lot of people these days cant/wont be that mature.

You're an ignorant and uncultured dolt. You've made a fool of yourself in this thread.

hard to argue that a group that has sold as many albums and played as many venues as KISS and fo as long as they did suck

They may not be your cup of tea, but they are rock legends.

Peter Criss doesn’t get the credit he deserves as a drummer. Ace Frehley the same. Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons were probably the least musically gifted of the original four but they had other attributes that made the band legendary.

They took live performances to the next level. Gene Simmons is probably one of the most brilliant marketers in rock history.

Lastly, they created one of the all time rock anthems in rock and roll history.

I am always amused by music “purists” who pass judgement this way or that. Why can’t people just say “not my cup of tea” and move on.

Taylor Swift is not my cup of tea, but I could never credibly say she sucks. Her millions of fans would discredit that statement.
Kiss had some good songs, along with a lot of crap. So do all bands of their longevity.

Jimmy Page made it a point to go to Kiss concerts when they played in London, and I trust Jimmy Page's rock and roll instincts.

Kiss excelled at live performance, that was their claim to fame. In the early days, a lot of headlining bands did not want Kiss opening for them because their own performance would pale in comparison to Kiss.

Ozzie was a big deal in reality TV. He put his family on TV for years. I guess he made a fortune. However ,many others have tried to duplicate that success and failed.

Nah, I just recognize rock from marketed rock, anytime someone has to wear heavy makeup and sing about the devil it is easily recognized as a commodity, ain’t my fault you were a frustrated youth

No one cares if you like it or not - you didn't know it existed - despite it being the fuel that MTV ran on.

It's amusing that when MTV switched from Hair Metal to Rap - it died. Yeah, it does trash reality shows, but music TV was Hair Metal. Great White, Damn Yankees, White Lion, Cinderella, Def Leppard, et al.

It was the Clinton years of decadent excess.

KISS never performed "live" shows. They put on stage performances and lip synched to recordings. When one saw KISS, they saw a play, actors putting on a show. If that's what people wanted and were willing to pay for, I have no problem with it. But they didn't get in front of an audience and play, they put on a scripted performance with background music.
