Pass drug test to get assistance...???

Just heard from a friend that Kentucky passed a law requiring anyone on any kind of government assistance program to pass a drug test. No pass test, no food stamps. I like it.

Ok, I just researched it further and the bill hasn't passed. Before everyone gets up in arms about it, I did read that the bill,s author will amend the proposal to include that if someone fails the test he can still receive benefits if he goes through a state sponsored rehab program. It seems something similar was tried in Michigan.

Something might have been proposed here in MI, but no such program exists.

It was passed earlier in like '04 or '08... I can't remember. Anyway it was ruled to be unconstitutional. They said it violated the 4th ammendment, I think. I don't know how to post a link with this phone or I would...sorry about that.

So you approve of an idea that violates the fourth...interesting.

How should I know? Ask the Michigan Supreme Court.

Since you were the one who brought it up, I made the mistake of believing you know what you were talking about; but now I see that it's just the same old dumbfuckery, which is your standard fare.

I'm proud to say our esteemed governor of Floriduh, Rick Scott, led the way in requiring drug tests for welfare recepients. A plan that has yielded less than 1% positive tests, cost billions of wasted state money, and made millions for the drug testing companies he's sleeping with. Including his own. The plan was ruled unconstitutional duh! just like most of his other schemes.

Like a similar plan to drug test state employees. Oh, but not high level state rmployees like himself or the state legislature...

LOL

Billions spent???? Millions made???

Of the 4,086 applicants who scheduled drug tests while the law was enforced, 108 people, or 2.6 percent, failed, most often testing positive for marijuana. About 40 people scheduled tests but canceled them, according to the Department of Children and Families, which oversees Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, known as the TANF program.

The numbers, confirming previous estimates, show that taxpayers spent $118,140 to reimburse people for drug test costs, at an average of $35 per screening.

The state's net loss? $45,780.

Baby wash, baby shampoo, bedtime bath soap -- all seemingly innocent products used in nurseries every day. But scientists found them to be the culprit behind a spike in false positive marijuana results in baby's urine, according to the journal clinical biochemistry.

What is a false positive? It is a test result that is returned when a substance tests positive for another compound. It is a case of mistaken identity. For example if you eat a couple poppy seed cakes before testing, you can get a positive result for opiates.

The chances of you getting a false positive depends on the quality of the laboratory that does the testing. There seems to be about 1,200 of these labs in the United States currently testing for drugs. Less than a 100 of these meet federal standards and most of the individual states do not regulate drug test labs. The number of false positives returned range from 4% to over 50%, depending on the lab.

A concern here is that, if your company tests for drug usage, they are probably not required to use a certified drug testing lab, which means you have a greater chance of getting a false positive.

The list below shows hundreds of products that AskDocWeb has been able to document as causes of a false positive drug test result.

In drug testing, a false positive is defined as a drug free sample falsely being reported as showing positive for drugs. This can occur for a number of reasons including: improper laboratory procedure, mixing up samples, incorrect paperwork and passive inhalation. But the most common cause of drug testing false positives are cross reactants. A cross reactant is a substance which because of its similar chemical structure to a drug or its metabolite can cause a false positive result.

The following substances can cause cross reactivity on an Immunoassay screen but are unlikely to be mistaken on a Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry test (for more information on these tests and others, visit the types of test page):
[h=2]Ibuprofen[/h]Ibuprofen is a common pain reliever and anti-inflammatory which even in low doses used to cause a false positive for marijuana/cannabis on the EMIT test. The EMIT has been changed to use a different enzyme to eliminate these drug test false positives. But recent evidence suggests that Ibuprofen taken in very high doses, along with other anti-inflammatories such as Naproxen will still interfere with the EMIT test.
[h=2]Decongestants and Cold Remedies[/h]Phenylpropanolamine and ephedrine are both substances found in many over-the-counter cold remedies. They can result in a drug test false positive for amphetamines on the EMIT test. Antitussives, to suppress coughs, such as dextromethorphan and perylamine may cause a drug test false positive for opiates.
[h=2]Anti-depressants[/h]Aside from when this class of drugs is specifically tested for, some of them including amitriptyline can test positive for opiates for up to three days after use. Even quinine in tonic water can also cause a positive result for opiates.
[h=2]Poppy Seeds[/h]Poppy seeds which are usually found on bread contain traces of morphine and can lead to positives for opiates. Codeine, which is found in many pain relievers, may cause a false positive for morphine or heroin because of its similar chemical structure.
[h=2]Antibiotics[/h]Certain newly developed antibiotics including amoxicillin and ampicillin have been reported to cause false positives for cocaine.
[h=2]DHEA[/h]This treatment developed for use by AIDS patients will cause a false positive for anabolic steroid use.
[h=2]Benzodiazepines[/h]Diazepam may cause a false positive for PCP.
[h=2]Enzymes[/h]A small fraction of the population excrete large amounts of certain enzymes in their urine which may produce a positive drug test. The enzymes in question are endogenous lysozyme and malate dehydrogenate, which according to research may run as high as 10% of positive samples.
[h=2]Melanin[/h]Melanin is the pigment which protects skin and hair from UV light. It is also very similar in chemical structure to THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol, the active component in cannabis) and some data exists claiming it causes false positives for cannabis. Unfortunately, an equal amount of data suggests that there is no link whatsoever.

Somebody forgot to take their PROZAC this morning...... I was posting the figures to discredit Howey, who stated the state spend billions and drug testing companies made millions, he was full of shit. Then you go off on a tangent, about false positives of drug testing.

Just heard from a friend that Kentucky passed a law requiring anyone on any kind of government assistance program to pass a drug test. No pass test, no food stamps. I like it.

Have at it.. why should my state be the only retard-central..

From July through October in Florida — the four months when testing took place before Judge Scriven’s order — 2.6 percent of the state’s cash assistance applicants failed the drug test, or 108 of 4,086, according to the figures from the state obtained by the group. The most common reason was marijuana use. An additional 40 people canceled the tests without taking them.

Because the Florida law requires that applicants who pass the test be reimbursed for the cost, an average of $30, the cost to the state was $118,140. This is more than would have been paid out in benefits to the people who failed the test, Mr. Newton said.

As a result, the testing cost the government an extra $45,780, he said.

it doesn't work, it's a bullshit scam by the gov to funnel state money into his medical conglomerate since they got the testing contract.. er sorry, his wife's company I mean, it costs more than just paying the damn benefits and it infringes on the individuals constitutional rights..

IOW it's GOP dream.. what more could they ask for?

The irony of the GOP will never end....Screaming for "Rights of the people" except the ones on welfare-fuck them.. Screaming for 'no gov't intrusion/Big gov'r' except when it intrudes on minorities and the poor-fuck them... Screaming about Obama's 'open purse-strings' except when they are funneling money to their own interests...yeah, fuck them.
