Paul Manafort hit with 16-count indictment from NY just moments after his sentence

Different State crimes

Same state crimes.

Original federal charges:
Fraud/bank fraud (income, debt and the nature of his real estate properties)
False income tax returns (failing to report this income on his income tax returns, and falsely claiming he had no authority over those foreign accounts)
Failed to file foreign bank account reports (known as FBARs, with the Treasury Department to disclose his control over his overseas accounts)

New state charges:
Attempted mortgage/bank fraud, conspiracy, falsifying business records and residential mortgage fraud, falsifying business records of overseas bank accounts

They're basically the same.
These newer charges were all what he was being investigated for (by N.Y. no less) back around March of 2017. This must have been when he pled guilty ahead of time.
Manafort's legal team is likely to challenge the new indictment on double-jeopardy grounds, arguing the charges brought against Manafort in New York are the same as the ones the former Trump campaign chairman went on trial for in Virginia.

Yes to double jeopardy. From what I understand, it was in his interest to plead guilty (though charges were never lodged back then) to as much as possible in case a situation arose like this one. Likely these will go nowhere. But, I'm sure the fake media is orgasmic over this without understanding.

This is too much legal stuff for me but I heard the same thing. Also heard there is a case that will be before the Supreme Court on double jeopardy that will impact Manafort.

Like most things since 2015 I suspect leftists will end up disappointed

There is no such thing as “mortgage fraud” at the federal level.

In the 16-count indictment, Manafort faces raps for residential mortgage fraud, attempted residential mortgage fraud, conspiracy, falsifying business records and scheme to defraud.

So what does this have to do with Trump and Russia ?

^Folks, you just can’t fix this level of stupid.

Money to refinance their (Manafort & Gates) U.S. real estate holdings from Ukraine earnings, falsifying loan paperwork...loans were secured by inflating their incomes and not disclosing debt.

NY Lawmakers Expected to Pass Bill Closing Double Jeopardy Loophole
New York Attorney General Letitia James is expected to send a bill to the state Legislature to close the so-called double jeopardy loophole.
By Dan M. Clark | March 12, 2019 at 01:55 PM

The law would not apply to individuals already tried and convicted, such as former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort Jr., because the so-called double jeopardy clause attaches at the start of a trial.

:lolup::rofl2:

“Basically the same”.

Once again, dumbfuck. There is no federal crime of residential mortgage fraud.

Federally charged: Money to refinance their (Manafort & Gates) U.S. real estate holdings from Ukraine earnings, falsifying loan paperwork...loans were secured by inflating their incomes and not disclosing debt.

So tell us...what does this have to do with Russian collusion?

Keep digging, moron. It’s humorous.

You sound as ridiculous as Manafort’s lying lawyers outside the courthouse yesterday.

Squawk! No collusion!:rofl2:

State charge: The latest indictment, which came from a grand jury in New York City, charges Manafort with 16 counts of mortgage fraud, falsifying business records and other crimes in connection with loans he sought or obtained on properties owned by him and his family.
