Was the (very expensive) military supposed to range all over the Earth at the whim of a small cadre of fanatics without any domestic oversight?

Defense seems to have been abandoned as the core excuse for America's enormous and ongoing outpouring of treasure, which, if continued, cannot fail to bankrupt even the wealthiest of nations.

Thats an ongoing question. The fact is however the president is the commander in chief of the military. The founders never clearly identified what exactly that means and what the limits are. So we work it out.

I might agree but many many presidents have used the military for non defense purposes. This is nothing unique to trump but of course lunatic leftists think it is.

We agree on that point. Americans have negatively impacted the world for over a century with their armed incursions. Did Donald Trump not betray his promise to start no new wars?

The govt has no constitutional authority to be involved in healthcare and food assistance unless you can show me where it says otherwise in the constitution. Please don't try the general welfare bs. The govt doesn't have a revenue problem it has a spending problem. Increasingly decade after decade people have come to expect and demand the govt take care of their every need.
