PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY SANDWICH IS RACIST, SAYS PORTLAND SCHOOL OFFICIAL

Verenice Gutierrez picks up on the subtle language of racism every day.

Take the peanut butter sandwich, a seemingly innocent example a teacher used in a lesson last school year.

The first paragraph is posted above. The notion is that discussing a food that someone may have never seen or tasted might destroy their self esteem and make it harder to learn. Therefore it is racist to use such an item in your lessons.

THIS is what liberals believe!

Poet believes this shit. no wonder he cries racism at everything

My question is why not make the lesson about a favorite food? The topic of a writing exercise makes a difference to the writer. I understand that. It would be unfair to grade a child based on the ability to describe something they are unfamiliar with, but that's just an unfortunate consequence of living in a country of which you are not a native, and not something "racist".

It's cultural if anything. A russian child would have as hard a time as a somalian child with this assignment.

Well said. Is a black, Hispanic or Asian child born and raised in America going to be any less familiar with a PB&J than a white kid born and raised in America?

For those not from America many different things could/would be different culturally. For Americans that's American privilege, not white privilege.

Sorry, but it is indeed QUITE POSSIBLE for a child of Asian heritage to be raised in the good ol US of A to be unfamiliar with a PB&J.

You are pretty fucking stupid, Zaps.

And once again, the petty taunts begin anew, and all because I dared question the veracity of the thread title.

A pity no one can show me where anyone ACTUALLY SAID a PB & J is racist.

I guess they were too busy hurling their taunts and insults.

Well considering how well the Asian community tends to do on test scores and education I don't think their issue is the POSSIBILITY of a child not knowing about a PB&J.

You can't see the forest for the trees my man if you think this is the issue in education.

Let's just take a single random statement out of context, distort it, and blow it way out of proportion.

It's just a random interview with a single principle in some random school. How did this even make the news? White people desperately want to be persecuted.

The thing is, it's only angry Whitey Righties with a persecution complex that are making this an issue in education.

Yes, this Portland principal sounds like an angry whitey righty with a persecution complex. Makes total sense.

Apparently there's more than one thread on this topic. The topic being an article published 14 months ago about an incident that happened even further back.

There's plenty of real racism going on as we speak, but for some reason this old news has conservatives upset. I'm trying to figure out why.

Improving education for those in urban areas is a passion of mine. I read stories like this and think it's crap. If others disagree then that's their prerogative. Soc, who I believe voted for Obama in '08 is the one who posted the article so I don't know if that qualifies him as an angry conservative or not.

Because angry conservatives never let an opportunity to whine about how persecuted they are fall by the wayside.
