Ha, just what I thought. A little more research shows that Judge Martin is not a muslim and that he berated the man who was assualted for being ignorant of Islam (he is) and for provoking a confrontation (he did) and pretty much handled the situation like it had been a bar fight. The facts are that the Judge is not Muslim nor did he site Sharia law in any way what so ever as part of his ruling.
I'm not an attourney and I don't know if Judge dissmissing the case on the bases that the defendent provoked a confrontation is either a legitimate or legal grounds for dismissing the case but it doesn't seem unreasonable from where I sit. I've known of judges to dismiss misdemeanor assault casses cause the defendent was an asshole who provoked the assualt. I know that from personal experience when an aquantance of mine took offense to a black man being at a local bar. He confronted the black man and I personally heard him call him a "nigger" three times. The third time was to much and the black guy popped him in the mouth and knocked him on his ass. The black guy was promptly arrested and charged with assualt. The charges were later dismissed by the local judge when testimony of witnesses that the defendent had been confrontational and repeatedly called the man a nigger.
Anyways my main point is, is that the right wing bloggers who have been reporting this have been grossly dishonest and in most cases have out right lied in reporting the facts of this case.
