People Starve and Die in NY, NJ, and Bush does nothing...wait...

A devastating hurricane has left millions without power or food, FEMA is nowhere to be found, it's like a third-world country, and the president seems completely oblivious to the crisis.... sound familiar anyone? Of course, the questions are endless, why were these people not saved by Obama? Does he hate cream-colored people? Where was FEMA and why haven't they responded? Is the FEMA director an incompetent cronie? Why aren't Geraldo and Shep Smith breathlessly and dramatically pleading for help on the news? Why isn't MSNBC devoting round-the-clock coverage of the cries for help? Where are all the liberals demanding answers to these questions, while blaming the crisis solely on the President?

Oh yeah, that's right, the President is a Democrat! I forgot that these sort of things aren't ever the fault of a democrat president, it's only when they are a republican that it all has to be shoved off on them personally. Obama looked really good for the cameras in his bomber jacket, but the people are still suffering and no help has arrived. Well... help did arrive, it just wasn't allowed in the city because it wasn't UNION help... but hey, didn't Obama look good in his bomber jacket?

Poor Dixie - you are so hoping that any incompetence tied to Libya can match the massive incompetence of the Bush admin on Iraq, and that Obama's leadership on Sandy is as poor as Bush's was for Katrina.

Unfortunately, your keynote speaker praised Obama effusively, the GOP Mayor of NYC endorsed him, and he has a 78% approval rating for his leadership during this crisis. What a stark contrast to Katrina.

Must hurt.

By all accounts noone is starving due to Sandy, FEMA has done a wonderfull job. President Obama did not survey the damage from an airplane on his was back from vacation, he was on the gground with the governors giving out his personal phone number in the oval office. The head of FEMA is doing a heck of a job, not just being told he was. The head of FEMA is not a horse trainer, but a person with experience dealing with disasters.

Sen. Krueger -- whose district on the eastern side of Manhattan suffered severe flooding and power outages that forced the evacuation of three hospitals -- described a nightmare situation to The Huffington Post Thursday.

People are trapped on roofs, she said. Disabled people can't get help. ConEd workers can't get through traffic to power lines in need of fixing, and they're running out of gas for their trucks.

And within hours, a relief fund was set up specifically for Staten Island, and red tape was removed for fuel tankers to enter the harbor so that the hardest hit areas could get help.

This stands as a real contrast to watching people stranded in New Orleans for days, without anyone in leadership telling them that help was on the way, or any coordinated effort to get them relief.

Bloomberg endorsed him in part as a result of the hurricane.

I got news for the good people of Staten Island - the ports were closed down for the storm and right now NOBODY got any gas.

However,

http://www.newsday.com/long-island/cuomo-on-gas-no-reason-to-panic-1.4181130

It is coming.

And the National Guard has been on Staten Island since Tuesday. It's a terrible disaster area, and they are fucked long term. But short-term, the Guard is there and food and water is being dispersed. No one will starve. But they're not getting heat anytime soon, and FYI on Long Island LIPA hasn't even bothered to attempt to give a timeline for return of power.

Con Ed in NYC has said they will have Manhattan back online by Sunday, so I guess they are going to get good grades. The other utilities, eh, not so much.

How am I getting around as of today? Bicycle! That's right. You know what, adapt. There's no gas for anyone. Idiots are stabbing other idiots for it. Me, I said, yeah, have fun with all that and took my bike to work. I have a quarter of a tank left and want in case there should be an emergency where someone needs to get to a hospital.

Yes, and when Tepubicans are happy with the government, you know things are going as good as can be expected!

The residents of Staten Island are pleading for help from elected officials, begging for gasoline, food and clothing three days after Sandy slammed the New York City borough.

???

Republicans are very confused about this. They seem to think that good leadership means that no one will suffer at all during a catastrophe.

It's impossible to prevent suffering, especially short-term. What people want to know is that their gov't & emergency services are on it, and that help is on the way.

Yes, this is what happens in disasters, especially in a heavily populated area like the East Coast. Needs are being met, and unfortunately priorities have to be set and some people will need get help as quickly as they wish, but so far, people on both sides of government have felt that they are getting the help they need.

Were you so forgiving during Katrina?

Also... I am pretty sure there wasn't a marathon given the ok to take place in N.O.

LOL... yet when it took three days to get water to the Superdome, we heard about that for how many years? All the suffering blamed on Bush and Brown.

Are you really trying to compare the response to Katrina - by Bush, FEMA and the local authorities - to the response given Sandy?

Really? Honestly, it is night and day.

Exactly. And help is there, and more is coming fast. What Cuomo has done in tandem with the feds (lifting regulatons and taxes) means that by tomorrow we are going to be able to get gas in NY. As of today, it's true, you can't get it anywhere on LI without waiting for 3 hours, and the problem is, no one knows where the gas stations that have gas at any given time are. So you will waste a lot of gas driving around looking for it! Best to just conserve, and as I said, look, you have to adapt. Take care of your old people and your children, but dude if you are healthy and not elderly, adapt. You have to.
