Senate Republicans...are now refusing to work past 2 p.m. -- a tactic they can employ by invoking a little-known Senate rule.

On Wednesday, the Judiciary Committee was forced to cancel a hearing as was the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) tweeted today : "Disappointed. Rs refusing to allow hearings today. Had to cancel my oversight hearing on police training contracts in Afghanistan."

Sen. Mark Udall also complained that he had to delay a hearing on the cause of Western forest fires.

Making good on Sen. John McCain's threat to withhold all Republican cooperation from Democrats in the Senate in retribution for the majority party using reconciliation to pass health care reform, the GOP used the rule that states committees can only meet when the chamber is in session with the unanimous consent of all members. That consent has almost never been withheld -- until now.

That said, at this point, I do not care if either party stalls the other from taking action as they both have proven that they do not have the best interests of the American people at heart. They are simply in it for the money that the lobbyists give them.

What is petulant is the actions of the Dems crying... 'we will pass health care no matter what. This is our legacy and we could care less if it is beneficial to Americans. Do remind us... how did it backfire?

It ended Newt's career as Speaker of the House and it seriously damaged Bob Dole's Presidential aspirations as Republicans were viewed as being childish and petty in shutting down the government to have their demands met as opposed to negotiating. It also caused a substantial number of Republican congressmen to lose their seats.

It was a high stakes game of chicken between Clinton and Gingrich and Clinton won decisively.

McCain risks suffering Gingrich's fate if he goes to far with this.
