You're absolutely correct. Connections, timing, circumstances.....that's what it's all about and that's why when I hear people say "They worked harder, they sacrificed, they did this and they did that...bullshit, plain and simple. Maybe one did but it certainly isn't the norm.
Whether we're talking about a butcher business or a trucking business or a recycling business I heard the inside scoop. The butcher didn't get rich because he had better pork chops nor the trucking guy because he offered people good routes or drove a lot of hours and as for the recycling business, well, that one doesn't take a lot of imagination.
As for myself, while certainly not rich, I retired early due to absolutely nothing I had control over. And, no, I didn't work harder than everybody else nor sacrifice more than anyone else. Nothing but luck and circumstance/timing.
