are plastics used to drive up the cost of petroleum products?

Plastics are made from petroleum byproducts, and as the cost of crude oil rises, the production costs for plastics also increase, which can contribute to higher prices for petroleum products. However, plastics themselves are not directly used to drive up the cost of all petroleum products. gpnmag.com oilprice.co

:tardthoughts:
I think it's saying plastics come from petroleum but as the cost of obtaining petroleum increases the price of plastic increases as a result but the presence of plastic itself doesnt directly raise the cost of petroleum. It's a problem of awkward phrasing but that seems to be the current state of AI
