Maybe, but either way, the Democrats won't win with a candidate that doesn't cause excitement. Biden vs Trump would be Hillary vs Trump all over again. On one side, a candidate with a psychopathic loyal base, on the other side, a candidate whose base just sees them as the lesser evil.

Hi base is already fired up and has been since 2015.

His base was fired up in November of last year, and they got creamed.

Why does anyone think Trump has the political savvy and leadership to weather an impeachment crisis, and not just turn on everyone and blow up the GOP in 2020 for not protecting him?
 
Trump is extremely selfish. If he thinks he cannot escape impeachment he will resign and blame everyone else including Kushner and Ivanka.

Oh, that's exactly what will happen. But his base likes that. They think he's an outsider roasting the establishment when he throws tantrums.
And yeah, he doesn't NEED to fire up his base again, but it will be the result of what happens. As long as they don't have the votes to remove him, an impeachment will do nothing but make Trumpsters love him even more.

I'm all for impeachment IF it's guaranteed he's getting the boot.
