Drug czar: Feds (Obama) won't support legalized pot

The federal government is not going to pull back on its efforts to curtail marijuana farming operations, Gil Kerlikowske, director of the White House's Office of National Drug Control Policy, said Wednesday in Fresno.

The nation's drug czar, who viewed a foothill marijuana farm on U.S. Forest Service land with state and local officials earlier Wednesday, said the federal government will not support legalizing marijuana.

"Legalization is not in the president's vocabulary, and it's not in mine," he said.

Kerlikowske said he can understand why legislators are talking about taxing marijuana cultivation to help cash-strapped government agencies in California. But the federal government views marijuana as a harmful and addictive drug, he said.

Obama claiming a new approach on drug policy in the US was just a mindfuck.

Change does not come from tthe center.

WAKE UP

Taxing shitty weed assumes it has some value. I'm ok with decrim, quit putting brothers and crackers in jail.

I voted NO!!. I believe that the federal government has no authority or power to legalize it, much less regulate it. The force that they are using to criminalize and prosecute people is an unconstitutional abuse of the commerce clause.

That's the theory brother, but it isn't what exists in reality.

Just as the federal government assumed the right to legalize and regulate alcohol, they assume that same right with marijuana.

If it is to legalized it will come through dealing with the reality, not the theory.

I do indeed understand that it is not what exists in reality, brother. what we need to be confronting people with is WHY that is the reality. People need to wake up and see the usurpation of power that has been occurring since 1934

I do not entirely disagree with that.

Yes, but it will never happen since anyone with a pot of soil and a windowsill can grow all that they need and skip out on the tax. The feds can make far more revenue putting druggies in jail and confiscating their property.

I believe you're missing the entire point of why the feds have no power to regulate or tax it.

for instance, can the feds regulate or tax a tomato plant in your side garden?

They can grow tabacco too but not many do. Also growing shitty weed is easy, sweat sensi takes bou cou TLC

look when the federal government spends BILLIONS annually supporting their war on drugs and any 12 year old can STILL get weed in any highschool, it's pretty lol.

how can they not have the authority to legalize it if it was they they made it illegal to begin with????

As for regulation, they can regulate any product they choose so long as it is put into law.

You are mistaken. It would be very difficult to tax your tomato plants- more effort than the revenue could pay for. And MJ, since it grows "like a weed", on a windowsill, and takes very little to supply one person, would be nearly impossible to tax.

Some do here in The South since we have the appropriate conditions of long growing season, warm days yet cool nights, but folks in most other regions simply cannot. It also takes some expertise, time and again the appropriate conditions to cure it. That in itself is enough incentive for most folks here- even tobacco farmers- to let others manufacture the products and pay the tax. Not so with MJ, which is simple to grow, simple to cure, and takes relatively small quantities to satisfy most folks habits.
