President Hugo Chávez of Venezuela Dies at Age 58

I will pray for his family. What a shame for them to lose a father and husband at such a young age. I dont know what this means for South American politics or the future of American - South American relations. I hope it helps the situation.

Mott, how naive Americans were toward Chavez? What is naive about not supporting, or liking, a 20th Century dictator in every sense of the term who bullied his way into power using fear and terror? As leader of Venezuela he did everything he could to drive out foreign investment, throttle their economy and throw away the country's wealth. Oh yeah, he became extremely rich.

No sympathy for that guy.
That's complete and total bullshit and propaganda. You're entitled to drink that sort of brain dead kool-aid but the facts are, he was both a democratically elected and popular head of state who used neither coercion or violence to gain that poliitcal position and the only legitimate bitch ya'll have is that he nationalized Venezuela's oil industry. Which is pathetic. Ya'll are willing to subvert democracy abroad to protect big oils interest in a foreign nation and you don't have the wit to see what fucking huge hypocrits that makes us to the outside world??

Oh but I forgot, xenophobic conservatives prefer to think that there is a wall surrounding this nation and that we're the only people in the planet where Democracy counts. What bullshit!

Ya know I don't have any sympaty for Hugo Chavez either, he's Venezeuala's problem but don't try to bullshit me as to why he's being demonized. I didn't exactly fucking care for his nationalizing his nations oil industry. It cost American investors a lot of money but organizing a coupe against a popular democratically elected head of state over fucking oil is not only immoral but is hypocritical as hell. Fortunately for Chavez that stupid fuck Bush organized the coupe so it should come as a surprize to no one that it failed.

This also explains why Hugo was such a drama queen! Percy Pringle was the President of Venezuela!

The truthers/birthers will be jumping on this bandwagon any minute.

What always freaked me out about Chavez is that just how niave Americans are. Like it was Chavzs job to look out for the US best interest. When that moron the shrub attempted his coupe against Chavez I thought there was no way in hell that he could possibly make a bigger fuck up than try attempt a coup against a popular and democratically elected head of state. Boy was I fucking wrong. The fact that his coupe failed was certainly a harbinger of far worse foreign policy fuck ups to come and is a testament to the shrubs incompetence.

The main reason Chavez has been demonized in our country is becuase he was such a stark reminder of how fucking hypocritical we can be in our foreign policy and he was a painful reminder of how badly the US embarassed itself in regards to his popular election in Venezuelia.

Exactly

We demonize Chavez, but crawl in bed with the Saudis, what hypocrites are we!

you do realize chavez tried to overthrow a democratically elected leader in 1992, right? He didn't give a shit about the Venezuelan people. he also shut down media organizations that criticized him.

I am sorry, but you are wrong. The poor loved him, he was their champion. The government he tried to overthrow was corrupt to its core. He also spent time in prison for his attempt.

He had his faults, but nothing like our government tried to portray.
