I guess the players who get scholarships get nothing out of it? Yeah, president cool, they'd be better off without that education, huh?

This guy is such a poser. We get it, you're a pansy and you've enjoyed great opportunities not afforded to others so you don't understand the need to sacrifice your body to achieve your goals.

Why not write an executive order to fix the problem? Seems you're awesome at declaring things.

No, he did not say that. The writer was paraphrasing his comments, badly. You built a strawman out of it where it appears he is juxtaposing a choice of football and an education against no football / education. But he did not say anything about that.

They quote Obama:
"You read some of these stories about college players who undergo some of these same problems with concussions and so forth and then have nothing to fall back on,"

Education is nothing to fall back on?

Some guy with an incomplete education and brain damage has little to fall back on. We all know that many players are in classes that are not academically challenging. My guess, is he is talking about something like that but if you are looking hard for some stupid little thing to get upset about then I guess it will do.

If they got an education. But too many players have focused only on their athletics and didn't take advantage of the academic opportunities.

Anyone remember Dexter Manly? All-Pro defensive end. He graduated from high school and had a full ride to Oklahoma State, then was drafted by the Redskins. He was on 2 super Bowl teams and was a Pro Bowler. But he will forever be remembered for his admitting that he could not read.

This is why the NFL as we know it is history. Now some will say that is a good thing. I do not think that it is. It will be a chickified sport not even worth a ticket. Soon the powers that be will be guilting parents into not letting their kids play and really talented athletes will look elsewhere. Also it is only a matter of time before someone claims that there are "disparities" with which blacks are injured in football compared to whites.

Now the X factor is that because of failed democrat policies, too many blacks see football as their way out of their depressed situation. Sad as that may be that is the culture the left has created.

If the NFL as we know it is responsible for as many serious head traumas as it has been, then the demise is overdue. The game will still be played. Helmets will change and so will a few rules. But that is about it.

Do not think that BOs words are just random, off the cuff remarks. They are not. There is a calculated effort to take down one of the last bastions of pure competition. Do you think having one of BOs buddies installed as union thug chief of the Players Association is a coincidence? Not at all.

Go look this up. The union has taken $100 million of its players money and instead of using it for pensions, healthcare and all the things you would think unions should do for its members, they gave it to Harvard to study the long term impacts of playing football. Sounds like a lot of money doesn't it? Not at all. It is just a downpayment on what the union will extract from the evil billionaire owners during the next negotiation. Does anyone doubt that Harvard will come out with a study saying there are negative long term impacts of playing a game where you launch your body into another human? Of course they will. First of all, FUCKING DUH. All you have to do is look at former players like Earl Campbell to see that there are long term impacts. Why do you need to spend $100 million? Well, you need $100 million for the imprimatur of a Harvard study.

Enjoy the game while you can, because it is over. It was a good run, and I am sure the NFL Network will continue to show clips of how it used to be and what made it great.

This "NFL football is ruined" nonsense is hilarious. A serious redesign of the helmet can help a great deal. And enforcing the existing rules concerning contact to the head can take care of most of the rest.

Not if you have brain damage. did you miss the "who undergo some of these same problems with concussions" qualifier?

He's not saying what you said he said in the OP, or what the article said.

With all due respect you have no idea what the hell you are talking about. If you knew how a concussion comes about, then you would know that there is not a helmet that can be designed to prevent a concussion. It is impossible. Yes, it is impossible. Allow me to educate you because I am extremely smart and informed.

A concussion is basically your brain rattling around inside your skull and it causes damage. Since the helmet merely shields the outside of the head, you are not protecting the inside. That isn't to say that a helmet doesn't provide protection of any kind, but it does not and will not protect against a concussion.

You are welcome for the free education

And please allow me to illustrate how ignorant you are. You are essentially correct in the cause of the injury. But wrong about the being nothing that can be done. It is not the range of movement but the suddenness of the stop that causes the injury. The current helmet was not designed to slow the head to a stop, but protect it inside a shell. The padding is wrong for protecting against a concussion.

Oh, and just in case you want to maintain that you are always right, here are websites that remove that burden from you:

You obviously didn't even read the links you posted. They back me up. Do you have a concussion?

You obviously didn't even read the links you posted. They back me up. Do you have a concussion?

They do?

From the first link: "The primary piece of technology is a hexagonal liner system inside of the helmet that made up of energy managing materials, which, coupled with strategically-placed face mask hinge clips help to reduce forces from frontal impacts. In terms of reducing concussions, there's not a whole lot more that football players need than the reduction of those impactful blows."

From the second link: "He looks at the colorful graphs on the computer screen again. If the test dummy were a football player, he would have just walked away from a game-ending impact without a concussion. Halldin smiles just a bit, and permits himself a very un-Swedish boast. “I would say that’s f--–king amazing.”

Halldin is careful not to claim the MIPS system can create those kinds of results in all impacts in all helmets. But, he says, “we can reduce rotation in all directions, and it’s significant in most directions. We might get 35 percent in one direction, 25 percent in another direction, and 15 percent in another." (also, the subtitle of the article mentioned Swedish scientists working on a discovery that may provide much help)

The other two links certainly do not approach the problem as if there were no way to reduce concussions and head trauma.

No, I do not have a concussion. But I can read. How about you?
