I believe most Americans who are not enthralled with Trump are actually somewhat concerned by Trump's relationship with Putin. Trump has historically been quite kind to Putin, even going so far as to seemingly take his side occasionally against Ukraine.
Even in Trump 1.0 there were concerns with how close Trump was to Putin (even trusting Putin over his own intel services).
There is no "peacekeeping" that is going to happen with regards to Ukraine as Trump seems mostly interested in ensuring that Putin keeps his ill-gotten gains and the USA gets to pillage Ukraine for minerals until we are done with them.
Honestly there's no way to see Trump as a peace-maker or even a disinterested party in these negotiations. And the side he seemingly chooses most times is one that causes many of us concern.

Has he really, though? So far what I've seen are abortive attempts to strongarm Ukraine into taking Russia's deal which preserves for Russia pretty much everything they wanted and provides almost nothing of value to Ukraine.
Even the "minerals deal" is possibly just smoke and mirrors. And all it does is ensure the USA gets its bite of the apple as well.
I think the real meat to this deal will come when we finally get resource estimates. All we have now are a couple of exploration reports from the old USSR using older exploration methods. We don't _really_ know how much of the good stuff they have and if it is even extractable economically.
There's a lot of "sizzle" for sale on this one. Let's wait until we see the steak.
But that's all that has been happening during all of Trump's term as well. To my knowledge absolutely nothing has changed.
