Suuure. A right wing, "I worked harder that anyone else" conservative turning down government money on principal. Now THAT's funny!

Sharon Jasper has been victimized. Sharon Jasper has been rabidly wronged. She has become a Section 8 carcass, the victim of ever changing public housing policies.

Sharon Jasper has spent 57 of her 58 years dedicated to one cause and one cause only, and has nothing to show for her dedicated servitude. She has lived in Section 8 housing all but one of her 58 years. This legacy was passed down from her parents, who moved into Section 8 housing in 1949 when Sharon was six months old. She has passed the legacy down to her own children, but fears they may have to get jobs to pay for the utilities and deposits that Section 8 is now requiring. She laments about her one year hiatus from the comfort of her Section 8 nirvana: “I tried it for a year… you know… working and all. It’s not anything I would want to go through again, or wish on anyone in my family, but I am damn proud of that year.”

What a bunch of BULLSHIT!

The Shrub wasn't "cocky", he was fucking clueless! "Cocky" wasn't the description of choice for the 8 years of that poseur by his more harsh critics.

Bottom line: you've got a black man in the Oval Office....who was head of the Harvard Law Review...and who won an election FAIR AND SQUARE...an election that was a REJECTION of the policies and directions of the neocon driven GOP for 8 years. Suddenly, anything he says or does in his capacity of President of the USA is deemed "arrogant"....how dare he "assume" to speak for the country's constituents that elected him. How dare he counter the wishes of the political opposition he defeated. How dare he assume he can use his brain to formulate opinions, to debate, compromise with heads of state, dignitaries, etc. Why, the arrogance of the man!

Puh-leeze!

Now you had DeMint being quoted that if the GOP could stop Obama's health care reform drive, it would be his "waterloo"....so they're not interested in the welfare of the people. Hell, the present bills were WELL REVIEWED by the GOP in the House and the Senate....which is why you have many of their proposals in it...which is why you have NO SINGLE PAYER OR PUBLIC OPTION in it....and the GOP is STILL bitching about that! There's nothing "hidden"...they just don't want Obama to succeed at anything, or be perceived to succeed.

The GOP LIES about Obama and the Dems trying to "ram things through"....if you want to know what that process is really like, read what David Stockman observed as how Reaganomics got passed at 3:00 a.m. on a Monday.

And one other thing....When people voice their objections or differences, I haven't heard Obama say, "I'm the decider...it's my job to make the decisions...it's your job for you to go about your business"...have you?

maybe they should stop DEPENDING on charities and start learning to provide for themselves?

I agree, however, the government should help them learn, be it educational opportunities or medical assistance. Healthy, happy adults want to improve their lot in life.

It we had a child who was despondent would we not try and find out the reason? Just because someone turns 18 or 21 does not mean they can solve all their problems.

Helping someone overcome whatever problem is holding them back benefits not only themselves but society as a whole. Instead of begrudging them assistance and giving them a subsistent amount of money to live on which only exacerbates the problem maybe it's time to take a different approach. A single mother is not going to do well in school if her children are crying from hunger when she's trying to do her homework.

Also, most government assistance programs kick in after the person has lost everything, after they've been beaten to the ground, after they've lost their motivation and will. It's like waiting until a person is dying from an illness rather than intervening at the first sign.

Many people live paycheck to paycheck or as one commentator expressed it, "They're one broken refrigerator away from bankruptcy".

We have the resources to help everyone. We produce more food than our nation requires so why is anyone going hungry?

Look at the housing crisis. Now we have too many new homes but for decades we were told we couldn't possibly supply homes for everyone. Look at the homes under foreclosure. Homes being sold for $25,000. Why isn't the government buying up those homes instead of saying they can't afford to build new housing for the poor?

Rather than the government giving them money for rent, say around $500/mth, give them a mortgage on those homes for $250/mth. and the remaining $250/mth for taxes and maintenance. Five years from now they'll have equity and in the meantime the banks get paid.

It's time to stop claiming we're helping the poor when the reality is all we're doing is barely keeping them alive! Let's help, in the true sense of the word.

you need to make up your mind. are YOU going to be the parent and teach your kid to be responsible and mature, or are you going to demand that the government fulfill YOUR responsibility to do so?

money doesn't grow on trees. letting the government just print up another 100 billion to cover its spending comes out of OUR private sector production. What you're advocating is a complete turnover of all private property and wealth to be put in the governments ownership for them to disseminate as they see fit. They have a word for that and it starts with a C and ends with ommunism.

It's not my kids I'm talking about. It's kids who were brought into the world to the cheers of anti-abortionists and as soon as they took their first breath the anti-abortionists washed their hands saying, "Take responsibility". Those are the now grown "kids" who nobody gave a damn about for the last 20+ years but rather then help them the anti-abortionists are cheering on more pregnant women to bring more of those kids into the world.

No, what I'm advocating is to give people a helping hand instead of treating them worse than animals. Do you expect a person to be healthy and have ambition when their monthly allotment for food wouldn't feed a dog?

There are a few words for that. Greedy and selfish. How some people have the gall to say they're concerned about human beings, that life is sacred, while watching others struggling to feed their children goes way past hypocrisy. It's a lie. Plain and simple.
