Great news - big breakthrough in healthcare. The Senate has sent their new proposal to the CBO for scoring. Their new proposal involves getting rid of the Public Option and in exchange expand Medicare coverage to people 55 and up (single payer!), expand Medicaid to people within 150 percent of the poverty line, and make a Washington State style Basic Health program for people within 300 percent of the poverty level.

Did you get that, conservtards? You pushed us far enough, so now we're coming at you with REAL socialism. And this version is gonna pass before next year. Enjoy!

funny how the poor people like the idea of taking from the rich so much.
Heck, I'm a boomer and glad to at least see the respect of the give away for the 55yr olds, and my drug dealers will get a good deal on the medicaid cuase they don't report that massive income. yeah baby free shit for the black market crowed, lets show those conservatives who they are fucking with. Shit thousand of murders just south of texas, do they think that can't be unleashed here. LOL they better back off.

Obama is making so big all in bets. Like I said under 4% GDP or over 8 % unemployment and NEWT's second generation will have dems back where they are comfortable. The bitchslapped stepchild of the republicans.
He could have taken the easy road to get reelected, the middle. But he went all in socialism redistribution with a little/lot buying of votes.
we'll see if it works.

I'm going to withhold judgement until I see how this plays out.

That said, I've always been of the mind that simply opening up Medicare to everyone who wants it makes more sense than some flimsy "public option". No doubt, Medicare has the capacity to make us all socialists. I'm convinced that a lot of people in the age 55-64 age bracket would gladly give up their piece of crap private insurance for the security and effectiveness of Medicare. Presumably, this plan has more potential to enroll far more people into an evil socialist health insurance than the so-called public option.

The downside might be that only the most sick people - the people the magical free markets won't insure - would sign up for Medicare. Degrading it's relatively stellar historical cost effectiveness. That said, it sure will be hard for the octogenerian teabaggers to whine at town halls about keeping "your government hands off my medicare!" once it becomes clear to them that Medicare IS a government insurance program.

ROFLMAO... it's stellar cost effectiveness? It will be bankrupt within 8 years as it stands (so say the trustees of Medicare). Not to mention the fact that the ONLY reason Medicare rate increases are a percent lower per year is because the doctors/hospitals pass along the difference to those in the private sector. Eliminate the private sector and THEN who will pay for the monstrosity that is Medicare (and Medicaid).

Article on Medicare's troubles.... (you know... the one with stellar cost effectiveness)

why stop with the age 55 why not 19?

the Democrats a bunch of slimy con artist..can't wait to see them voted out..

this is no more socialist than the public option....and this is what i wanted i the first place....if we really want to insure those that can't afford it, why create a new government insurance company....expand that which exists....

i have a feeling they were to scard because its obvious the government can't run medicaid or medicare effectively

Yeah, let's include everyone who comes into this country whether they are legal or illegal. This will be the death of the Democratic party. :)

Medicare and Medicaid are both run poorly and we've lost billions of dollars. The unfunded liability right now is in the trillions. How does anyone expect government run healthcare to be any different? It's insane.

It will slowly encompass everyone and the tax increase will be a lot less than what the average person pays for insurance now. Other than one or two exceptions every country that has universal medical pays less than 1/2 the US average. And even the exceptions pay less than the US.

To paraphrase someone (I forget whom) "The world is unfolding as it should." :)

No intelligent person opposes the healthcare bill. The only way an intelligent person could oppose this healthcare bill is if they aren't actually opposing it, but only knowledgeable about it in the form of Republican lies. Therefore, the healthcare bill has 100% support amongst the American people.

Republicans should be executed for treason. Undermining the economy of the American people by telling lies is the worst offense possible.

Heil Great Leader who can do no wrong!

You should write a song.

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.
Winston Churchill
