Public School Educators are Amazing

For decades politicians ran saying teachers were underpaid and did not get enough respect. That went back before Reagan. Then the Repubs decided the teacher's unions had to go, So they started to demonize and pick at them. The Repubs of course bought it all.

The Republicans want huge tax vouchers like $25K a year per child- so that the rich and wealthy can put their children in Private schools instead of Public schools!

Of course public schools are paid for through the collection of County Real Estate taxes.

It is the reds fault that they set up a system that underfunds public schools. When I was a kid the public schools competed evenly with private schools. They had sports, music, college prep, languages and other options. We had slow, average, and fast classes. Teachers were respected. They were dedicated professionals. That is what they wish for now.
using property taxes for school funding guarantees that wealthier areas will have more money. We are back to a separate and unequal educational system.

I’ll give you credit dude, you’re consistent. Doesn’t matter the issue everything is the reds fault and the blues do no wrong. It’s a facile answer but I’m sure it feels good.

When you were a kid schools in this country were largely segregated and they were not given equal dollars.

Additionally school’s are largely a state issue so your argument falls flat when certain states have been democratic dominated.

You also ignored my question. Why do so many liberals in urban areas send their kids to private school’s? If you profess to support public schools why aren’t you willing to send your kids there and get involved as parents?

Is it Republicans fault that so many (rich) liberals in urban areas send their children to private school?

They do it because the Repubs took the funding away. When the public schools were well funded the schools were just as good. That is why those with means took their children to private schools. The average suburbanite takes his kid out of public schools. That is because they are designed to fail.

The US spends more on education than other countries. Why is it falling behind?

Do you have any supporting data to show that Republicans took funding away from schools as you claim and thus forced progressive parents to send their kids to private schools? Why does such a Democratic dominated state like California rank 41st in per pupil spending then?

The teachers union has destroyed the industry. Smart teachers recognize that fact and parents are pulling their kids as fast as they can.

Yeah, some schools were segregated. but we always had blacks in our high school. Even schools in poor neighborhoods could compete.

My kid is 40. When he was a kid he went to a Montessori.
I was involved in his schooling, never missed a teacher meeting.

The financing of schools changed.

I’m 48 but I can read history, talk to my folks etc. about how segregated many schools were. Of course you had white flight out of many cities etc. You also had a very different demographic in the 50’s & 60’s. I speak to my parents friends who grew up in places like Berkeley and Oakland and went to all white schools that today are maybe 25% white or less.

Having lived in Oakland, LA and SF for over 35 years I can speak first hand to people’s view of education. They’ll give great lip service to public education and diversity, but when it comes time to put their kids in school that all goes out the window.

Most families who send their kids to private school get involved in the children’s education, help fund raise etc. Now imagine if they did the same thing while sending their kids to public schools? But many aren’t willing too.

If it is THAT PRIVATE ... Why share it at all.

Methinks this is a cop-out ...
I shared because what I witnessed was amazing. It was incredible. I also shared to heal. Every post that blindly criticizes public education is difficult. Navigating this past week made those posts more hurtful and personal. Selfishly I want people to know my pain and what I experienced. That said, I am not foolish enough to believe this is a forum where I can be 100% open.

I shared enough and appreciate support from many. Those that belittled, minimized, or questioned my experiences... predictable and boring

I had thought about dropping the subject ... but I shall respond to this.

I think the questions about suicide et al are extremely relevant ... because ...

1. It show's the impact of the lockdown

2. The group of folks showing up ... did they have on masks ... were they all vaxxed ... Yep, now we are back to the fukki lockdown rules (which even obastard, hojo, and lori can't seem to follow) ...

3. It is indeed unfortunate that the issue of what is or is not being taught in public school came up ... but that is to be expected ANYTIME, ANYTHING comes up about education.

Yeah, I know you think I'm the bad guy in this ... I AM NOT. Every question I asked was/is legitimate ... however painful you may deem it to be. But I am of the firm conviction that there is nothing wrong with telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth ... even though there are those on the JPP Board that feel that it is cliche'. And even though you may not believe it, I DO HAVE SYMPATHY FOR YOUR FEELINGS. On top of that ... I have sympathy for the kid and his family.

And as far as this statement ... "That said, I am not foolish enough to believe this is a forum where I can be 100% open." ... the ONLY restriction YOU have is self-imposed.

As schools begin to reopen, think about making a donation of supplies to your local classrooms....The teachers and students will appreciate it more than you can imagine....:)
