The theory that appeals most personally to me is that the Saudis knew where he was and gave him up after Al Qaeda affiliates started causing trouble for ruling monarchs and dictatorships in their neighborhood.

they have been doing that for years....so how does your theory make sense?

About a month ago, some dude created a blog post claiming that Osama was dead, he created and used those photos to "prove" that the US had already killed Osama bin Laden.

I was wrong on the timeline though. Apparently it was out there since 2009. I received it in an e-mail about a month ago so I thought it was from that time period.
