putting tyranny on the bench

Barack Obama has nominated U.S. Attorney for New Mexico Ken Gonzales to a lifetime appointment as a federal judge. This nomination is particularly significant because Gonzales was the U.S. attorney who oversaw the investigation, arrest and prosecution of the Reese family. At the time of the Reese’s arrest, Gonzales had the audacity to release a statement saying, “Those who sell firearms knowing that they will be illegally smuggled into Mexico to arm Mexican cartels share responsibility for the violence that has been devastating Mexico.” So far, he has not called for the prosecution of any of the federal agents or administrators who oversaw the sale of some 2,000 guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition to Mexican gun smugglers in Operation Fast and Furious.

What?

I am of the mind that Presidents get to pick their judges and appointments regardless of ideology. Of course the left wing doesn't share that view, so I do understand the tit for tat nature from the right. If the left shared my view Bork would be on the Supreme Court. But, then the left think that they should rule even if they aren't in power.

Somehow the GOP likes to be second class citizens when it comes to power in DC. My guess is that it has to do with ideology. Liberals live for big government so everything they do and say is geared toward big government. They work to be employed by big government. Conservatives by their nature want to shrink government so by their very nature don't gravitate toward it.

Eventually it will become so monolithic that it will implode on itself, devouring everything in its path including its loyal adherents like Desh, Haiku and Darla who's last dying words will be "It's Bush's fault"

ILA, the only problem with your thinking is that you ignore the GOPs love of big government as well. They desire big government power for their very strict 'law and order' viewpoint, whether it's foreign or domestic. Both left and right ignore the parts of the constitution that they don't like or that they feel offer too much freedom that they don't trust in the hands of the people.

Not at all, you may think I am parsing words, but I don't use the words GOP and conservatives interchangeably.

I shoud have expounded even further. The left wingers can expect the majority of democrats to go to Washington and do their bidding of enlarging government. Conservatives share no such luxury. Apparently the best they can hope for from the establishment is for the GOP to grow government just not as big as liberals, but they grow it just the same.

I think the past two elections bear that out with the loss of GOP establishment candidates McCain and Romney. Both good men in their own right with some fine qualities, but nobody would mistake them for conservatives.

They could never articulate conservatism because they don't believe in it. They mig be conservatives on some issues, but they are not ideological conservatives. They same held true with Bush.
