Queen shakes Martin McGuiness's hand

Here is something for you all to ponder, during the Troubles over 3500 people lost their lives. If that was translated into US terms it would be around 500,000!! I bet the Queen washed her hands really well afterwards. I have got to admire Prince Phillip for doing the same, as it was probably McGuinness who ordered the bombing of his uncle Lord Mountbatten on a fishing boat in Sligo.

She was also the number one target for the IRA at one time!!

If you want to have peace you have to allow those who fought against you to take their place in society. Otherwise the Troubles would continue on. I am not saying forget. But there were reasons for the actions of both sides.

It seems to me this is a good thing... or isn't it?

As always, there is more to it than meets the eye. Sinn Fein wants to become a major party south of the border and sees this as a way to achieve it. Up till now, Gerry Adams has steadfastly refused to attend Westminster as a MP but didn't mind taking the money including accommodation allowances until very recently.

I'm sure there is more to it than meets the eye on both sides. But in order to make peace you have to move beyond seeing the other side as the enemy.

Otherwise it is not peace, its just a cease-fire.
