yacht sales caps are tax breaks for rich folks. step up basis rules are tax breaks for rich folks... even if the occasional poor guy gets the chance to avail himself of those rules.

I used to do my own taxes, but now they are a bit too complex for me to feel comfortable doing them correctly, so my financial advisor and tax accountant take care of it for me.

You see dependency on the Government as being a benefit; I see it as the opposite. I also explained why I believed this; because, (1) you cannot show how people were freezing to death or dying of starvation before these programs were implemented; and (2) because it is the fodder for dishonest politicians to BUY the votes of low information dullards who think that they cannot get by without a Government handout. What was happening before LiEAP/LiHEAP were created? Can you show us all the people who were freezing to death?
The FEDERAL Government should NOT be in the business of PROVIDING anything for ANYONE. Please find where it says so in the Constitution.
YOU think such programs are a benefit because it makes you feel good about yourself and supports the laughably stupid position that Liberals care more than anyone else on the planet. But how is creating dependency good for society?
Now to your equally ignorant claims that this reduces income inequality between the rich and the poor; NO, it does not because the incomes of the rich and the poor did not change. And no amount of tax law will change the status and disposition of that income. It also presumes that the poor do not make the choices that make them poor or examine the real causes of poverty.
But as is typical with a liberal left mentality, you want to GIVE people stuff and take political credit for it without doing anything about the CAUSE. It goes back to the old axiom; give a person a fish, and they will eat for a day. Teach him to fish, and he will eat for a lifetime. Dishonest dunces like you merely want to give people a fish and then take credit for how much you care. Conservatives like me want to teach them to fish so that they do not have to be dependent wards of the state.

and AGAIN... I understand that the benefits of step up basis are available to everyone. So is the cap on yacht sales tax. What percentage of the benefits from step up basis re-adjustment goes to the top1%, would you imagine? Not much less than the percentage of the benefits from caps on yacht sales tax.
It doesn’t occur to you that the reason they do this is to promote boat construction in the State which creates good paying jobs and actually creates MORE State revenue does it?
