Rand Paul's son's sense of entitlement

Yeah, but this is pretty stupid. I see it as a cry for help. I was pretty rebellious, I never would have thought of drinking and getting on an airplane, too risky.

Yes, but things are a lot different with kids today than they were when we were younger. Would you agree that our generation was disciplined more and had more respect for authority than the current teens-mid 20 somethings?

No, I think the we were spoiled, too compared to our parents, the slide started with the boomers. I did not have to work as hard and had more material possessions than my parents, who were from the greatest generation.

Child rearing is so complicated, I am relieved I am done and was successful, I can now be a shoulder for my daughter to lean on.

Re-read what he wrote. He's trying to tie this kid being a drunk idiot to attitudes towards entitlement programs.

You are totally missing my point. First of all, it is an opinion. But it is ironic that it's perfectly OK for conservatives and Republican pols like this kid's dad and grandfather to deride people receiving unemployment insurance or food stamps as having a 'entitlement mentality' with no evidence other than dogma and personal bias. Second, how a person treats others who are in a position of providing service to you can tell a lot about how they view that person and themselves. Was William Paul taught through word and deed that employees are property who can be abused? Young master Paul failed this test miserably on the flight. This kid didn't just get drunk on an airplane. He physically assaulted a female flight attendant. That raises a whole new set of questions about his character and upbringing.

I have seen many a drunk male, and you are correct, very few of them have assaulted a female, even when seriously drunk.

And as far as a 'sense of entitlement' goes, it is the rich, not the poor who exude that sentiment. Have you ever heard of a poor person being stopped by the police and saying to the officer "Don't you know who I am"?

Rand Paul got to be senator just becuase he is Rons Pauls son.
He had no prior political experience.
So Rands son expects the same.

Let me recap for you...

You spout off a lot of nonsense, then provide anecdotal evidence, then try to tie that in with your perception of a party's views on entitlement programs, then when questioned by numerous people as to how you jumped to your magical conclusion... you simply spout the original nonsense again as if that explains it?

This isn't an issue of perception. When a party announces their desire to cut the welfare program, it's a good idea to assume that they want to cut the welfare program.

The Republicans regularly state they want to cut the deficit/national debt yet don't do shit about it. Is it a good idea to assume they really mean it this time though?

Maybe you are new to politics. What a politician/political party says and what they do are often two different things.

And you came to that conclusion because that's just how it works?

so you are saying that Rand paul would have gotten just as much support from the right had he not been the son of a politician?
Worked for the Bush's
The Kennedys
etc.

You stated the kid feels entitled to (I guess) a Senate seat because his dad is a Senator. What is that statement based on?

You're saying that when the Libertarians say they want to cut aid to the poor, it's just a PR move and I should ignore it? And I should use the partisan gridlock to justify that?

Maybe you are new to politics.

What offices do the Libertarians hold?

I do feel sorry for politicians children because their youthful rebellion is under a microscope. They should know that their lives are judged and people hold them toa higher standard, but face it, 19 year olds make a lot of mistakes and don't think of the consequences or, this could be a cry or attention! Maybe, dad as been spending too much time at being a politician and not enough time being a dad.

No, he was calling the kid a spoiled brat.

Rana's response is much less bigoted and more understanding of the event.....I'd rather have a hundred bucks for every ordinary Joe that got drunk
and acted out on a flight than every rich kid that did the same thing....it happens quite often, and this kids birthright has nothing to do with anything.

He may very well be a spoiled brat, but this incident doesn't prove that one way or another....
Bfgrn is just showing his bias against this kid because of politics and partisan narrow-miindedness.....

We don't blame Al Gore's parenting for the fact his kid was once busted for drugs.....or his rich kids "feeling of entitlement".....we can't say those two isssues are even connected with the little we know about it.....or about Sarah Palin's daughter being a single mother....or Kennedy's nephew being charrged with rape.....shit happens in every family, rich and poor alike.

So this is just Bfgrn's bigotry and bias on display.

I'm not sure, but it's probably listed somewhere on the net. Rand Paul and his father were a senator and state representative, respectively.

They don't hold any national offices. Ron Paul was a national representative, not a state representative.
