Reality Check

I saw the cop making a statement on CNN this morning... he claimed that he doesn't have a racist bone in his body and that some of his best friends are banana eating jungle monkeys.

His lawyer went on to say that he was not actually referring to Professor Gates as a banana eating jungle monkey, but was only suggesting that Gate's behavior in the specific incident at his house was behavior typical of a banana eating jungle monkey.

yeah... this guy should run against Deval Patrick in the next gubernatorial election. He's a poster boy!

It's funny though because I hear this a lot and from people who surprise me. I go into Harlem maybe twice a month? There are a couple of great places there, one of them a Cuban place that has great music, no wall street boys, and the best mojitos I have ever had. And quite a few people have said to me, you're going to harlem?

Uh, yeah. And no one has ever bothered me there either. Sometimes I think you get what you expect to get.

I think we have conflicting claims here. You state that Gates displayed racism, not "if" he displayed racism. You absolutely assumed that he concluded the cop was a racist because the cop was white.

The statements are not conflicting. I stated I do not claim to know exactly WHY Gates decided to make that assumption, but given the reports that have been presented, he did do so.

Given Gates quick turnaround, I am guessing that he heard the tape of the open mike conversation.

Wow, I can't believe you pulled out the cherished symbology of a white man getting mugged in minority dominated urban area.

Hey man, I've never been mugged by a black person. Neither have you. Neither has any dude on this board.

The fact that you read a few stories in the crime section of your local newspaper, is not robust evidence of atrocious effects of racism against white males.

I've lived in a mostly black neighborhood, and I never had a problem. I've had black girlfriends, and gone into inner city pool halls in black neighborhoods with her an never had a problem. The only problem I ever had was a couple of white idiots making snide comments about my assocation with my gal.

Would I walk up on a meeting of the bloods and crips on an urban street corner. Fuck no, Who would? That's just common sense. Just as i wouldn't walk around in a white trailor park with that has meth labs.

I used to go to mostly black concerts in HS, never had a prob.

Would I walk through the projects in Nawlins, NO.
I don't see that as racism though, payback maybe for past whitey sins.
 
By these people continually picking and choosing any words that someone speaks, and accuse them of being racist..hell, we can't even say monkey today without being accused of being a racist..

this is another way to shut down the people's freedom of speech...it's one way to try and shut down any criticism of the "the Hugo"
