This probably won't get as much response as the overly emotional appeals of sissy flag wavers , but....

I found there reasons interesting. Many had supported Obama in 2008 because McCain was clearly nuts and Obama made some promises about civil liberties, the imperial Presidency and peace. Personally, I knew he would abandon those and instead focus on his idiotic economic ideas. He did and if he loses this election it will be primarily because of that.
Only one of them seems to prefer Romney though. They all see some of the same problems with him on economics that exist with Obama, but note his foolish comments on trade as a concern.
They also note Romney's more bellicose positions on Iran as being reason for alarm.
Here are the questions asked and my responses. How would you respond?
1. Which presidential candidate are you voting for and why?
If I am able to, Johnson. I did not keep my registration up to date and don't really care that much as it won't matter.
2a. Between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, who do you think would be worse regarding economic freedom, including things such as industrial policy, free trade, regulation, and taxes?
I guess, Obama. Romney is horrible though and will do more damage to free market arguments as he will pretend to support them while actually being far from an advocate of free markets.
2b. Between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, who do you think would be worse regarding social freedom issues such as gay marriage, free speech, school choice, and reproductive rights?
Romney. A President's impact on most of these is mostly rhetorical except when it comes to appointing justices. Of the older justices Ginsburg is in the worst health but Scalia always looks like he could go at any minute.
2c. Between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, who do you think would be worse regarding foreign policy, military interventions, and the global war on terror (including domestic restrictions on civil liberties)?
Romney. Obama has been a disaster. If Romney wins maybe Democrats will be able to repair themselves on these issues, but I am not too condfident of that. Under Clinton, Republicans actually started to stand up for civil liberties, but any hope of that will be lost if Romney's pro war rhetoric and allegiance to the neocons is rewarded.
3. Who did you vote for in 2000, 2004, and 2008?
Browne, nobody, nobody.
4. Apart from the presidency, what do you think is the most important race or ballot initiative being decided this fall?
Amendment 64 in Colorado. It's a state where Federal intervention could be dangerous to relection of the President.
5. Reason's libertarian motto is "Free Minds and Free Markets." In contemporary America, is that notion a real possibility or a pipe dream?
Libertarian ideas of free markets are mostly a pipe dream as neither party supports them but they will stay relatively free out of necessity and the incompetence of regulators to foresee where the markets are headed. Free minds will be a reality. Social conservatives are consistently losing ground on those issues and that is not likely to change.
