The Nazis rounded up union leaders and their most ardent supporters and sent them to concentration camps (not death camps, but ones like Dachau).

I don't think that's the case. It's far more a matter of how much of an agenda one accepts or rejects. I don't think Left or Right in America--with some exceptions within both--are calling for institutionalizing or imprisoning such people.
Authoritarian governments are Leftist. Open, minimalist, governments are Rightist.
Christianity is largely a separate thing from politics as it doesn't mix the two for the most part (Render unto Ceasar what is his, render unto God...). Islam is Leftist politically because the religion blends politics into its belief system.
