Crime family films generally make me feel a bit queasy because of the moral dilemnas. I did like a bit of the Godfather series, but not sure if I ever saw any of them in their entirety. I did like A Bronx Tale, which Robert Deniro both directed and had a significant role in, but if you've seen it, I think we could agree that the mob was pretty darn civilized in it, with the only killing I remember being portrayed as one of community defense.
I grew up around it in Brooklyn and Queens , the neighborhoods was always safe

Another fun 'fish out of water' anime on Netflix is The Way of the House Husband. He's the baddest assed yakuza mobster ever and married to a office lady (who absolutely pussy whips him). His daily travails dealing with shopping and what have you along with his old yakuza acquaintances, are hilarious. Then there's a side plot with a cat doing cat things to inject more humor.

My library just got 'The LAndman', season one in. So far so good. I recognize all the locations, and Sheridan did his homework well once again. That guy is on fire with his productions and series. Billy Bob Thornton was great casting.

On Netflix in English

Funny as hell and the sound track is awesome. They even use classics like those old Looney Tunes cartoons.

I watched the third and final season of Blood of Zeus on Netflix and then I decided to give your Dan Da Dan a try. I've now seen the first episode so far and thought it was pretty good. Let's see if I see the rest :)

For those who haven't seen Blood of Zeus, here's the trailer for the first season:

You putting in so much work all optimistic that people might measure up amuses me.

Well, I'm liking this new anime series that Gardner recommended and also got some ideas as to the types of films and series that other posters have found good, including from you, so I'd call this thread a win :-)

I was talking about your investment into this particular internet backwater generally.

Look....I am famously a champion of lost causes.....but this is a particularly nasty dark age.

I'm reminded of the title of a film, "As good as it gets". I think we can all imagine that things could be better. But as long as things are good enough, I'll continue, and also appreciate the things that make me smile. Incidentally, I recommend the film in question. The trailer can be seen here:

Yes, Jack Nicholson plays a character that is pretty obnoxious at times- I think that comes across loud and clear even in the trailer. But he also says some things that I thought were very good. To quote a certain chess master "the truth hurts" (sometimes), but it can also be very helpful in navigating life's difficulties. And ofcourse Nicholson isn't the only main character in the film. I can only name 2 films I know where Helen Hunt plays a starring role, this one and one more, but I really liked both of them. The other film I know I saw her in was this one:
