Recently watched tv shows and movies

Perhaps if I knew more about royal affairs, I might have been more critical of the acting of various actors. As things were, I felt I wasn't just getting a drama, I was also getting a history lesson. Up until the point when Diana was killed- at that point, I felt I was getting a white wash and that's why I stopped.
I never expect real history from TV and Hollywood.

I'm sure The Crown had flaws, and perhaps if I knew more about events -other- than Princess Diana's death, I would have stopped earlier because I disagreed strongly with x or y take they had on some previous event. But until I saw The Crown, I was pretty much a blank slate on almost all of it. I do know of some events happening -after- Princess Diana's death, namely the life of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, first through Harry's "Spare" book and recently by seeing Harry and Meghan's 6 episode documentary on them on Neflix.

I do admire Elizabeth II for her wartime activities and her taking up auto mechanics as a hobby. A Royal actually doing something besides sitting around being Royal was an anomaly.

My knowledge of royals in general is pretty much confined to "The Crown" itself, unless you want to count fairy tales :-p.

I find most people from the upper classes to be pretty dull and stupid. Some of the founders of those big fortunes must be really disappointed in their successors. I've met a few of the big local oil billionaires; most were pretty down to earth and practical, and not at all snobs. their spawn are a different story with a few exceptions, like H.L. Hunt's kids. I live in a small town that used to have the most millionaires per capita than anywhere in the country back in the 1950's and 60's. I've had a billionaire's son ask me if I 'wanted fries with that ' a few times, lol. He wasn't being spoiled.

I haven't spent much time with millionaires in my life, definitely don't think I've spent any time with a billionaire. I went to a few private schools where my family was on the lower end of what many others had there, but that was a long time ago, back when my parents were still together and making good money.

Scary movies are just another form of comedy for me. Then they started competing to see who could be the most gory and gross, and just became stupid.

Unless we're talking the "scary movie" series of films, I definitely never equated scary with comedy :-p. But to each their own I guess.

Gravesend Brooklyn. The show, set in 1980s Brooklyn, follows Benny Zerletta, an Italian-American soldier in the Colezzo crime family, as he navigates family conflicts and the criminal underworld. The series stars William DeMeo, Joseph D'Onofrio, and Christopher Mormando.

An all star cast from mob movies

Crime family films generally make me feel a bit queasy because of the moral dilemnas. I did like a bit of the Godfather series, but not sure if I ever saw any of them in their entirety. I did like A Bronx Tale, which Robert Deniro both directed and had a significant role in, but if you've seen it, I think we could agree that the mob was pretty darn civilized in it, with the only killing I remember being portrayed as one of community defense.

I think it was Kristen Stewart I just saw "All you do is remakes and sequels...which bore everyone to tears....is there anyone here who can do their jobs?"

A Brooklyn Tale was pretty good, despite being preachy. A lot of people don't like DeNiro's acting and directing, and while he's no Martin Scorcese he's not bad.

Mobster were sociopaths, but mostly con men, so they were indeed capable of being very social and civilized, otherwise nobody would have done business with them. That part wasn't faked for the most part.

The Godfather, however, was largely faked, as the directors and Puzo himself had mobsters looking over their shoulders while making that movie series. It pretty much glossed over a lot. But then it also pointed out a lot of hypocrisy, such as the Godfather claiming to despise Joe Valachi as a 'thief', and also one of his enemies as a 'pimp', while his own business interests included a whorehouse where they murdered a hooker to frame a Senator.

Indian Summer 1993.

I suggest putting trailers with movies you've watched, as it can help others get an idea of a movie if they've never seen it. Anyway, I went and looked for a trailer fo your film, it looked good :-). It's here:

I had a pretty good summer back when I was 11- went camping at Au Grand Bois in the Canadian province of Quebec. The meals were vegetarian only, something my eldest sister, who also went, really didn't like, but I was alright with it. I think it was just for 2 weeks anyway. I'm not sure what my favourite part was, but holding hands with a girl I liked, sleeping next to another girl, both in our sleeping bags, and having 2 female counselors persuade me and a group of other boys to take of our swim suits if they took off theirs were definitely some of the best parts :-).

I appreciate good writing.....something which has been long absent in Hollywood.

I think it's still around, just perhaps in short supply. I have yet to see a movie directed by Christopher Nolan that I didn't like, though I've currently refrained from watching The Prestige, as it seems a bit too scary for my taste. I admit I might actually find it good if I ever do watch it though.

I have definitely heard that remakes, sequels, prequels and the like have skyrocketed recently. From what I've seen, the good stuff has generally migrated to tv series. I think the last film I watched was one Openheimer, directed by Christopher Noland, who as I've mentioned previously, I've yet to be disappointed in.

They're usually very bad, and predictable; not intentionally funny, which of course makes them even more funny.

I get very immersed in what I'm watching, so for me, it's almost like I'm in the film itself, which if it's a horror film, doesn't feel funny at all.

I suspect it's precisely because of what you call being 'preachy' that I liked it- it had a pretty well defined set of morals despite the mob being involved.

I honestly don't know if I've ever seen any other movie directed by DeNiro, so my knowledge of his directing capability is limited, but I think I've always liked the movies he's acted in. Admittedly, my knowledge of the movies he's acted in is also limited- I just had a look at the list of movies he's been in on IMDB and the only ones I know I've seen are al 30+ years old. From oldest to newest:

The Godfather Part II (at least I think I have), Once Upon a Time in America, Brazil, The Mission , A Bronx Tale and Heat, which also starred Al Pacino.

"The Good Shepherd' he directed as well.

'Raging Bull' was probably among his best acting, along with a movie with Jane Fonda called "Stanley and Iris' that I liked, though critics didn't. "Taxi Driver' was pretty good. " The Bridge of San luis Rey' I liked as well, and several other non-gangster and non-cop movies. He makes the most money from the gangster and cop stuff, but he does other roles well, too. He also produced and played the monster in a Frankenstein remake. He played a pretty good creepy lunatic in 'Cape Fear' remake that was pretty good.

Haven't seen either of those. Never been a fan of boxing, so not sure I'd want to see Raging Bull, but Stanley and Iris looks like something I'd watch one day :-).

The trailers for those who haven't seen these films and would like to see some previews...

After I finished watching the trailer on Stanley and Iris, I saw a video talking about the Princess Bridge, which I also thought was a very good film. Trailer here:
