Gunmen killed more than 100 people in an attack on three villages in central Nigeria, an area where longstanding disputes over land, religion and ethnicity often erupt into violence, two local government officials have said.

Police confirmed the raids by Fulani herdsman late on Friday (local time) on the villages of Ugwar Sankwai, Ungwan Gata and Chenshyi, in Kaduna state, but declined to give a death toll.

Hundreds have been killed in the past year in clashes pitting the cattle-herding and largely Muslim Fulani people against mostly Christian settled communities like the Berom in Nigeria's volatile "Middle Belt", where its mostly Christian south and Muslim north meet.

The unrest is not linked to the insurgency in the north-east by Boko Haram, an Al Qaeda-linked group which wants to impose sharia law in northern Nigeria.

Now before anyone bitches about the Crusades, let me be first to say that Christianity, too, has a bloody history. But that in no way diminishes the threat posed by radical, fundamentalist Islam today; it is merely a distraction perpetuated by the PC thought police. "They did it, too" is not a legitimate argument.

Until Kool-Aid drinkers such as Christiefan stop referring to it as such, I will continue to use the term ironically.

You forget however that doctor killing, Qur'an burning radcial Christians don't represent that religion of peace . . . The radicals have to be searated from the honest folks. Rich Saudi Arabians have to get the message too. Now, does the IRA represent the Pope?

We've already done the entire religion is evil thing already, and as we can recall, that didn't work out too well for anybody.

I would like to suggest that you perhaps rethink your position.

Where were you when this was going on, dolt? I thought no religion was supposed to be more peaceful than Buddhism.

More than a dozen people may have been killed after a Buddhist group rampaged through a town in an isolated corner of Myanmar, hacking Muslim women and children with knives, a rights group reported Friday.

A government official said the situation was tense but denied any deaths.

Myanmar, a predominantly Buddhist nation of 60 million people, has been grappling with sectarian violence for nearly two years. More than 240 people have been killed and another 250,000, mostly Muslims, forced to flee their homes...

Why are Buddhist monks attacking Muslims?

Of all the moral precepts instilled in Buddhist monks the promise not to kill comes first, and the principle of non-violence is arguably more central to Buddhism than any other major religion. So why have monks been using hate speech against Muslims and joining mobs that have left dozens dead?

BANGUI, Central African Republic — Dozens of young men stood waiting for storm clouds to pass, as wind stirred up swirls of red dust on the largely deserted street in Central African Republic’s capital. Through the drizzle, they spotted a man in a flowing white robe traditionally worn by Muslims, hand-in-hand with his adolescent son. The style of dress was enough to confirm that this was their enemy.

Hungry for revenge, the crowd descended upon the pair. The man’s terrified son broke away, and fled on foot, abandoning his father as the knife-wielding mob clutched the middle-aged man.

Nigerian Christians Attack Muslims, Kill Dozens

Reports estimate that between 67 and 300 are dead after Christian ethnic Taroks attacked Muslim cattle-herders in the town of Yelwa in central Nigeria's Plateau State. The Tarok ethnic group used machine guns mounted on jeeps, along with rifles and machetes, to attack the Muslim community. Possibly three mosques were damaged and at least 67 people have been buried, while hundreds more have fled or disappeared. Just last week, the Christian Tarok were attacked by the Muslim Hausa in the region.

In the most recent attack, the Associated Press reports that more that 100 were killed and 1,000 homes destroyed. "It will take time to account for the exact number of dead and missing. It's mass murder, because machine guns were used, not machetes," Justice Abdulkadir Orire, secretary general of the Jama'atu Nasril Islam, told Agence France-Presse.
