Remember when they made fun of Gore for not winning his home state?

I have to admit this puzzles me...the guy's been the governor of Massachusetts.....why pretend Michigan's his home state?......

Call his home state Mass., or Michigan... He will lose both.

The Rant about Gore losing Tenneessee was spectactular, if Romney loses Mass or Michigan, looks like it will happen with both, I will pull those old threads.

I think the reason Gore losing his home state was laughable is that it was considered a swing state at the time. Obviously, Michigan hasn't been regarded as a swing state for decades. But Romney could still pull it off.

You really don't know much about politics, do you?

Ha, that is funny, Tenneessee was only a swing state because it was Gore's home state..... Romney cant even make Michigan or Mass swing states!

Jeez Jarod, do you understand why he got made fun of for that? Clinton/Gore won Tennessee in 1992 and 1996. If Gore won Tennessee in 2000 he would have been President.

Uh, wrong. A Democrat won Tennessee in '64, '76, '92, and '96. Being a southern state, it has a strong Democratic history.

Michigan and especially Massachusetts are liberal states. In a rational mind, there is simply no comparison.

Odd... http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/mi/michigan_romney_vs_obama-1811.html

Apparently Jarod doesn't pay much attention.

People mocked Gore because TN went Dem both in 1992 and 1996, then he lost it in 2000.

When is the last time MI or MA went Rep Jarod? (I will help you since you are a moron... MI in 1988, MA in 1984)

So from 1952 through 1988, Tennessee went Democrat twice. That doesn't look like a "strong Democratic history" to me. Clinton-Gore won a plurality in 1992 (47%), with Bush getting 42% and Perot getting 10%. Hard to say how it goes if Perot isn't in the race. In 1996 Clinton-Gore won a plurality again, but a much closer one (48-46-6). Those look like outliers to me.

Basically, the Democrat numbers didn't change in 2000 (Gore-Lieberman got 47%) while the Republicans did better without Perot on the ballot.

So from 1932 through 1988 it went Dem 7 times and Rep 8... OMG OMG OMG....

(1) Before the Civil Rights Movement, Tennessee, like many Southern states, voted Democrat for national elections. That changed.

(2) Do Michigan for the same time period. Even using your asinine metric that ignores changes in historical voting patterns following the Civil Rights Movement and the Southern Strategy, Michigan has a stronger Republican tradition than Tennessee has Democratic,

LMAO... so that is why you went back to include Ike's terms, but stopped prior to that?

Well, since the issue was whether Tennessee has a "strong Democratic history," I went back to the beginning of the Republican trend, which began in 1952.

It's not really controversial, SF. Relax. Tennessee is a red state that Clinton/Gore were able to win because they are two Southern white guys and a third party candidate drew support away from the Republican candidate. Gore didn't lose support in the 2000 election, there was just no third-party spoiler for the Republican party.

LMAO... yeah, you cherry picked what you wanted, then tried to proclaim some bullshit about the civil rights era changing it. I then pointed out that you had included Ike, which was prior to that period and now you spout off the above. You were cherry picking. Period. I know when you get flustered you enjoy telling me to 'relax' or 'calm down'... it is truly comical given that you are the one wound up right now. Which is why you jumped in with your cherry picked data so that you could feel important and knowledgeable and all. Sorry that blew up in your face like that.
