Renewable Energy Sets Record in USA

To make wind turbines you need large amounts of rare earths like neodymium produced in China which is incredibly polluting. You also need coal to make the steel so when you add it up they are not so environmentally friendly as portrayed by the likes of Zippy.

Yes. 150 years ago we were still burning wood and electricity to rural areas and most cities was not a common thing. I understand your point. I certainly understand power densities energy sources (hence the reality we cannot get off fossil fuels immediately) I am of the mind if we came that far in that relatively short period of time, man can and most likely will overcome all of these shortcomings. Do you see my point?

I'm for domestic drilling. And the oil industry receives ridiculous subsidies.

Why would you be against renewables? Why not throw everything at it?

Don't answer. Because you see renewables as a "left" thing - so you knee-jerk oppose them. Such silliness.

We all know Zippy is not very bright but I haven't given up all hope with you.

The Spectator:

Here’s a quiz; no conferring. To the nearest whole number, what percentage of the world’s energy consumption was supplied by wind power in 2014, the last year for which there are reliable figures? Was it 20 per cent, 10 per cent or 5 per cent? None of the above: it was 0 per cent. That is to say, to the nearest whole number, there is still no wind power on Earth."

I have never said I oppose it because it is a left thing. My opposition is grounded in science. You say things because they sound good not because they are grounded in science. You follow that scientific genius Algore

Oh, bull. There is no "science" behind your POV.

Alternatives are still in the early stages. If you don't think that efficiency & cost will improve exponentially, you haven't been paying attention to human history.

You're the dude who looked at the IBM computer taking up 3 rooms in your office building, and laughed hysterically at the colleague who said we'd all have computers on our desktops someday.
You made that analogy the last time you spouted bullshit. So what you going to do then, minituarise the wind turbines? Again I draw your attention to Betz Law for wind turbines, I bet you've never heard of it!

I worked in IT for well over 30 years and have seen immense changes.

That is cool. It never ceases to amaze me how technology is changing things. Hell, we now even have 3D radar. I remember just the rings and blips. Amazing.

And what laws of thermodynamics are being broken there genius? This ought to be good. And ah, what do think the storage is for? Unpredictable weather maybe? Do you really understand any of this?

http://www.csrwire.com/blog/posts/1169-thermodynamics-why-technology-won-t-save-us

This article explains it nicely and simply so even a moron can understand it.

Essentially everything we do from a technology standpoint has a cost from a thermodynamic standpoint. The energy required to make solar and wind viable would exact too high a thermodynamic cost.

Science does not back up your point. It sounds good. But you can't fight the laws of physics. It isn't a problem solved by technology.

And if you think that they can you didn't pay attention in science. Don't be a science denier. The laws of physics are immutable

sounds like a brilliant plan.......use renewable energy first, backed up by fossil fuels.......
Which invariably distorts the pricing structure and has resulted , in the case of Germany at least, in negative pricing for dispatchable power. The USA has reduced CO2 emissions below that demanded by Kyoto using CCGT and fracked gas, whilst Germany with its wonderful Energiewende hasn't dropped emissions at all. So much for renewable energy!!

who gives a fuck.......it uses up more renewable energy and less non-renewable energy.....so it costs you more.....dish it up, cheapskate.......
