Does anyone know how Mueller and the FBI view all this Russia demonizing. Will Mueller's investigation being concluded do anything to defuse it.

We at least know that the Dems won't need it anymore to destroy Trump.

I suspect that the same Cold war demonizing of Russia is going to go on for quite a while because Russia is a competitor to the US economically. The same reason why China must be completely demonized to be an enemy.

For anyone wishing to have a civil and decent discusssion, I'll start a new thread on the APP section.) (let's call it, 'US Hate for the Big Competitors')

Russia is not an economic competitor with the US. Not even close. They are a geopolitical threat, not economical.

China is both economic and geopolitical.

I would suggest that a geopolitical threat is an economic threat as well but I'm anxious to hear your reasoning if you wish to debate the matter.

Russia is a military threat to the US, inasmuch as Russia is a nuclear power that stands against US control over challenged areas of the world. As is the US to any expansionist ambitions of Russia. Or China for that matter.

And beside that military might of Russia, it has huge potential to threaten the US on control of oil resources of the world. Otherwise, consider the economic clout of the BRICS. (you know what that stands for?)

If this debate can remain polite and decent then I'm willing to engage in it here. If it doesn't then I'll have to insist on taking it to the APP section.

You said they were an economic competitor. That is not the case. Yes, if something were to go drastically wrong, the geopolitical threat could cause economic concerns around the world. But in the sense of being a threat economically, that is not correct.

No, you have suggested something that is incorrect. You have not provided anything to substantiate your claim. The US GDP is about 12 times as large as Russia. We control our oil production and Russia has little to no influence on our buying extra oil from Mexico and Canada. So no, they are not a threat there.

We agree they are a threat on the geopolitical level.

Trying to keep it confined to a geo-political differences is parroting the party line. Or in this case the US line. Russia is one of the world's largest countries, nuclear powerful, and with the potential to compete with the US on the economic scene. China already is/has and Russia will follow. All the attempts to destroy Russia's economy by the US are being proactive to stop Russia from advancing and taking their place as a huge competitor to US economic power.

Again, they are not an economic power. Period. They have military might and have geopolitical influence. They are not in any position to threaten us economically. We would crush them. They are largely dependent on energy and minerals for their economy. We have great diversity. They have NO potential to compete with us. None. China is a developing nation with vast resources, a massive population, and they are also diverse and becoming more diverse with their economy. Saying 'China did it, so Russia can to' is ridiculous. Russia does not have the population, nor do they have the resources. They have half the population of the US and 10% of the population of China.

What other industries (outside of energy and minerals) do you think Russia has that can compete with the US?

Also, this has nothing to do with 'party line'... this is about economics, resources and population. The numbers are not there for them to ever compete with us economically. China is our largest individual competitor. The EU if we look at them on the whole is next. After that, India will likely become the next economic power if they continue their current path. You don't pay attention very well so I'l just not bother trying with you anymore. If you paid attention you would understand that Russia has the potential to compete with the US and is already competing by getting in the way of US plans for more aggression in the ME.

You're trying to separate economic competition from competition as a nuclear power and that just doesn't work that way. As the US sanctions against Russia become more ineffective because of the competing alliance which is the BRiCS, you may come to understand better.

Maybe a way to help you understand would be to take the example of China before they became an economic threat to the US. Most people can appreciate that Russia will soon become another of the world's economic and military powers.

Or, maybe it's as simple as just telling you to try to understand why the US has been the aggressor in nearly 40 countries since WW2 alone. Were they geo-political competitors? Venezuela? Syria?
