Republicans Are Apparently Claiming Foley Promised Not to Do it Again!!

No. They are not dead at all. The republican base will blow this one under rug like they do any other explosive issue. I think you are underestimating how far they will sink to be apologists.

I think that a portion of the religious right base are sincere. Bugf*ck nuts, but sincere.

Unless the repubs can spread the blame around, and I think it's too late for that and I don't think they can do it anyway, I believe it will hurt turnout in that part of the base Tiana. We'll see if I'm wrong.

I understand their desperation though. This will keep the base HOME.

I don't think so, Darla. I agree with Tiana.

The last two Republican House leaders had to resign because of sexual depravity and serial adultery: Gingrich and Livington. Didn't cause the "values voters" one bit of heartburn.

Foley was in a leadership position: deputy whip.

The alleged christian "values voters" won't be detered from voting GOP.

If they didn't think this was going to depress turnout, they wouldn't be so desperate. I think they are right to worry.

I believe I am right on this, but if I turn out wrong, I'll say so.

based on what???????????? Damo, face it, he pulled it out of thin air. That's my only point.
Hence "generally"... I did paraphrase. He was making a play on your post, hence he used the same number. He elaborated later and harping on this is only done because you really don't have a real answer, you know that there is a good base that will vote that way... So pretending his original number is the issue gets you out of simply stating, "Yeah, we both have our slavering maniacs willing to forgive anything!"...

Worry? They simply are just waiting that result now. They've pretty much given them the election by trying to get this guy past the election without this being 'outted'...

They've already put the rhetoric out there and the dixies are eating it up. I seriously think their is a republican PR hand book and they read straight from it when these things happen:

#1) Deflect issue by bringing up Clinton

If there is a PR nightmare, find something Clinton did similar or at least something he did that you can spin it toward the current situation

#2) Blame current dems in office (despite evidence)

#3) Get a catchy slogan and repeat it.

#4) mention 9/11

you get the idea. They will have forgotten about it in 4 weeks. You give them way too much credit.

I think you are both right. How about that for crossing the fence, building bridges and other happy horseshit, There are many who vote for "Rs" no matter what but there are lso many Christian Conservatives who do not vote, 30 million in the 2004 election alone by some estimates. There was a story somewhere that I glanced at today that said that Rove was generating a great deal of effort to get those people to the polls this time around. That effort may prove less effective and more difficult as a result of this scandal. Indeed, the Republicans may be forced to try to just steal this election like they did the last one, and with this scandal even that could prove harder, since there are only so many votes you can manufacture in any location.

No not the Dixies though. The Dixies will still go out and vote. I mean a different type. It's not that I believe their entire base will stay home, it's that I believe a certain percentage of them will. And that religious base is what wins them elections. Well, plus election fraud.

This is very bridge-building of you. You've become like a peace-maker. The only reasonable one on the board!

It's just so fabulous. Congrats on a better and more lovable you!

Actually, Damo, I already stated that a few hours ago. My assertion was on "relativity". Not once did I deny that we have dems that won't budge. Actually I think I stated it to you directly at one point.
And furthermore, the 33% is the issue. How can you have an honest debate about statistics and voter trends when people are just pulling $hit out their a$$es and handing it you? Simply saying plus or minus doesn't take away from the fact that he made it up.

fair enough. I did hear one or two republicans on CSPAN this morning that were enraged about this. Although I think they were more upset about the fact that he was gay than anything. But, beggers can't be chosers.

Right. like Bay Buchanon. She was actually enraged. But she did refer to Foley as a "known homosexual" so it's hard to say what pissed her off more.

Ah, yes. You've just put your finger on the real hypocrisy here. Of course no one's going to own up to it but it's there just the same.

Personally, the thing that annoys me most about all of this -- apart from the exploitation of the children involved, that is -- is the reason this will hurt Republicans in general. The fact is that if Foley had been pursuing female pages, there'd be a lot less outrage on the right.

thank you .. I couldnt have said it better meself .. ;)

But I will try anyway ... to deny there is a loyal base in each party just blows my mind. To quibble about a few percentages as an attempt to try and validate ones side of an argument is further mind blowing ...

Thank the lord I am

LOL, priceless.

#1) What you call quibbling, I call "calling you out on your bull$hit percentages you pulled from your ass". If need be I can refer to polls with percentages that come close to my assertions. Yours was pulled from your as$. A variance of 10 percentage is not as small and insignficant as you'd like to imply. If it were one or two, possibly three, I'd agree. However its not and furthermore, I provided Nixon approval ratings. I doubt you even knew them before they were posted here.

#2) That is a complete strawman if I ever saw one. Please point out the post where I said that there was not a loyal democratic base that wouldn't budge.
