Congress's three African-American senators introduced a bipartisan bill Friday to make lynching a federal crime.
Sens. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., Cory Booker, D-N.J., and Tim Scott, R-S.C., drafted the bipartisan legislation, which defines the crime as "the willful act of murder by a collection of people assembled with the intention of committing an act of violence upon any person." It also classifies lynching as a hate crime that would warrant enhanced sentences.

Byrd repented his evil ways and was hailed as hero and holder of civil rights legislation by the time he died.

Strom Thurmond, that bad Republican who lived to 100, refused to publicly recognize his black daughter ever. What a GOP southern turd.

Witnesses told Knapp's family that after white police officers arrested a black suspect in connection with the shootings, someone in a group of people was heard saying: "Yeah, we are going to get us a white boy." Seventeen suspects were arrested and charged with second-degree lynching. However, local prosecutor David Schwacke commented, "We haven't been able to establish hate as a motive."

According to a Fox News report, Schwacke, "acknowledged that if it had been 17 white suspects and two black victims, hate would more likely be considered a motive." The report went on to note that, "Federal hate-crime law could apply in this case, but seven months after the incident the U.S. attorney's office in South Carolina is not even considering charges."

Thornburg escaped serious injury, but Knapp was beaten so badly he was in a coma for weeks. "When I first saw him in the hospital, I said 'They beat him to death. He just didn't die,' " his aunt, Annie Minnick, said. When Knapp finally awoke, he was mostly paralyzed, unable to walk or take his young son on the fishing trips they used to share.
