How do Republicans hate big government, exactly!?

Calling often for more military, war, militarized police, etc.

In fact, they also tend to want border security & wall funding vamped up.

Anti aborion laws, more likely to support tariffs.

What's consistent is when it comes to helping poor people in need, is about the only time Republicans hate big government.

i do not often agree with you, but you nailed this. not sure hate is the right word, but "could care less." even if most of today's base of GOP voters are lower income white folks, and elderly.
 
The trick is starting with Reagan, the Repubs, the party of the super-wealthy, created the lie that the poor people are evil and are taking your super-duper hard-earned tax money. Meanwhile the wealthy have made America into an oligopoly that moves the wealth slowly and steadily to the top. We will end up with a plutocracy. The very rich will rule. we have a spectacular wealth gap now, worse than the Gilded Age. It must be the immigrants.
The Repubs defunded the IRS. That is their equivalent of defunding the police.
