RIAA smells blood, ruins lifes, hurts society

take a look at recording industry sales, they are tanking.
It's a serious problem
But obviously this fine is excessive and will prob be thrown out on appeal.
they need thousand of smaller fines instead of one or two story grabbers.

No, but it did freak me out. Because they might have all of that on record! You see?

And then, whenever I discovered bittorent...

Jeez, gigabytes, and gigabytes of games.... I didn't even think about it whenever I downloaded them. To be fair, though, most of them were old games that are out of print, and at least have no publisher out there to prosecute me.

Exactly. I was only even angry at the severity of the fine, not the fact that it was given out.

Most of these copyright laws were designed for street vendors who copied and sold videotapes at massive profits, not single mothers whos kids downloaded a few songs on Kazaa.

China steals billions worth of movies
your social status in life is not a defense to crime.

They copy and distribute billions of dollars of movies.

I never said it was a defense of the crime. It's just that we're using old rules to prosecute new situations... the law needs to be changed.

And it certainly isn't stopping downloaders to just pick out 2 or 3 out of thousands and sue them for everything their worth, as the risk of actual getting caught is still miniscule.

They have a Buggy-whip mentality in the new automobile world. Seriously, if they don't change everything they'll go the way of buggy whips. People won't even use them anymore within my lifetime to put any music out.

Sometimes technology surpasses the old, and brings in something entirely different. Instead of working with that these companies are stuck in the dinosaur age.

Watermark's outlook on the issue has changed considerably since the beginning of the thread. That what happens when you have no core self I suppose.
