Why do I hear this so often?

Whenever Oprah gives 40 million away, it was selfish, because she gets a tax deduction.

Whenever Buffet give 40 billion away, it was selfish, because that is not taxed as part of his estate.

Does it make sense to these people that this doesn't represent a net gain? How can it possibly be construed as selifsh?

If giving away 40 million meant that you got a 100 million dollar tax deduction, then it would be selfish. However, giving away 40 million reduces your taxes by far less than 40 million. If someone were selfish, wouldn't it make more sense to keep the money? I've never heard such base stupidity.

Its just stupid for them to hate the rich liberals for giving to charity. They claim charity can fill the gap that will be left when government stops giving any aid to the poor. They should be appaulding anyone who gives to charity because it fits their world view. They are just so transparent that they can not bring themselves to appauld ANYTHING the rich people on the left do even when it is exactly what they want to see done.

Helping the poor get to a point where they are adding to the economy instead of creating a drag on our system is GOOD economic policy as well as the decent thing to do.

Increasing the money we spend on education in this country is going to make a huge differance.When we make schools the hubs of their communitues by showing that at school is where people are going to connect their greater society and feel a sense that their country cares about them and wants to help them be invested in their countries future. This is how our kids will start taking a real interest in education. Schools as they exsist today are just one big place where they are treated like criminals. They are so big all the kids feel no connection to anyone on staff because no one has the time to get to know them personnally and understand their current needs. Prison is not condusive to learning and high schools today are very like them.

They can probably do this better then any country in the world with the 2.6T in taxes they receive annually. And thats after all the charitable deductions. What makes u think 3T is going to make things any better?
