Rick Scott makes the right call on Medicaid

you CAN sit there and say it, it's just not honest....or true.

OK. Because it isn't true or honest to say that health insurance rates increase year to year for the past I don't know how long and that it is safe to assume that in the absence of Obamacare such rates would continue to rise each year and that people barely able to afford insurance in year n might not be able to afford it in year n+1 due to the expected annual increases?

Still confounded on what all this has to do with the Medicaid expansion.

I recall that Obamacare was passed because there were 45 million people without coverage........then the CBO reported that after Obamacare there would be 30 million without coverage.....so I guess the portion is 1/3.......and that's before they realized that some people who had coverage were going to lose it......

http://cnsnews.com/news/article/cbo-obamacare-will-leave-30-million-uninsured

OK. First, I'm sure "the portion is 1/3" comment was submitted just to piss off Dixie. :)

Second, check out the excerpt from your link. (Excerpt) Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report says that under the Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. Obamacare, 30 million non-elderly Americans will remain without health insurance in 2022. (End)

2022 I've said over and over that ObamaCare is the first step. That's all Obama could get passed and even that resulted in screams and court cases from every Repub. Once the people get used to ObamaCare, become familiar with it, they will demand further changes. Do you honestly think ObamaCare will be the same 9 years from now?

I hear there's a good article in Time magazine on health care. You might want to check it out. You see, ObamaCare has started a serious look at health care. Now people are going to take an in-depth look for a number of reasons and one is it's news and journalists like to get the scoop so they'll be checking into different aspects. None of this would have happened without ObamaCare. Health care would have been forgotten just like it was in the early 90's after Hillary gave it a shot. What did we hear about health care from, say, 1995 to 2008? The occasional fleeting acknowledgement something had to be done and then forgotten. Now certain States are objecting to go along. New programs are coming on line. All this makes news and people are starting to take a look at all aspects of health care: doctors, hospitals, drug prices, equipment....everything that's involved. And that's all good.

did you forget completely about BACs multi paged thread where he and I did the 'I told you so' dance because there were now MILLIONS who fell in to a income category that they couldnt afford insurance, but made too much to be subsidized and every single one of you fucktard libs ignored them by saying 'look at all the millions that will now have insurance'????????

is your idiot minded liberalism that short on the attention span or memory retention? of is part of liberalism to say 'fuck the minority have nots'?????

Nothing to do with attention span or memory. More like ignoring bullshit. Who can't afford insurance? The guy who bought a new car this year? The family who wants an expensive summer vacation? If they could afford insurance before how much has it gone up? And aren't they subject to a "fine", something to do with income tax?

Sure, some people will pay more but a hell of a lot of people who couldn't afford insurance before will now be insured due to being subsidized. One thing I've learned in life is when someone says they can't afford something it almost always means they've simply chosen to spend their money on something else. They choose not to afford it. Furthermore, as I noted in my reply to PmP ObamaCare has a few bugs to work out and that will happen over time. Of course, if everyone had got along earlier and implemented a one payer system all this would be moot.

It will be worked out. Be patient.

you see.....that's the part that's always confused conservatives......we tend to think the time to take an in depth look at something is BEFORE you pass a trillion dollar bill intended to fix it.......our liberals are more the "you need to pass it so you can look at it" type.....

this really shows your ignorance. you really think that there's this bright, fine, and very defined line of who can and cannot afford insurance? that you think it's impossible for someone to make a certain amount of money that prevents them from buying insurance yet not qualify for the subsidy? stop being a total dumbass.

more ignorance on your part, which certainly tells me that you really don't give a damn about the plight of people, just your bullshit agenda.

in the meantime, some people will just have to suffer. isn't that what you were trying to fix?

it was also passed because of the rising cost of healthcare.

Have you seen the numbers on that lately?

The reason it confuses the Conservatives is because Liberals are the type who get things done while Conservatives lie and misrepresent and obstruct and otherwise delay. Like a little kid who doesn't want to go to school. Does everything hoping to miss the bus. Going slow brushing his teeth. Can't find his socks. Doesn't want to wear certain shoes. But like a little kid they will get schooled, one way or another. And when the sequester kicks in a few of them will be getting a kickin'.

There are always exceptions. The point is more people will be covered.

The plight of the people? STY made a funny! The plight has been going on 50 years longer than most industrialized countries. The nonsense is coming to an end. Virtually every country with government health care experiences savings and the citizens enjoy equal or greater longevity. Pull up any graph. Find one to contradict that. That's why this objecting to ObamaCare is nonsense. That's why the Repubs were left out of the discussions. Again, like spoiled kids they were figuratively kicked out of class.

In the meantime, some people will just have to suffer. isn't that what you were trying to fix?

You're right on both counts although it's important to point out a lot fewer people will suffer than in the past. Now that the Repubs see government health has to go further maybe they'll wake up or maybe they'll lost more seats in '14 until there are so few of them it won't matter. Either way is fine with me.

this is not a good thing. passing a law to see what happens is a monumentally stupid idea.

Not in the case of medical care. It had to be understood the days of "pay or suffer" are coming to an end. People will receive medical care regardless of their financial situation. Now the details can be worked out. The plan can be fine-tuned. It's time for those great Republican thinkers (wasn't it Newt who said he was a great thinker) to put on their thinking caps and get to work. ObamaCare is a reality. Instead of the Repubs thinking of ways to subvert it perhaps they can turn their attention to perfecting it. Or not. In either case the people will deal with them in a short while.

your responses tell me that it was more about telling republicans to fuck off than it was to fix the healthcare industry or help the people, because you clearly show that even though more people are covered, others have now lost their ability to get insurance or be subsidized. You are your own bastardized version of Libertarianism, except you're saying 'they got yours, so fuck you others.'

thank you for proving my point about your callous attitude about fixing the plight of the people. all you did was change the group of people who couldn't afford insurance and that makes you happy.

Sure I can (health insurance rates increased each year before Obamacare), although I'm not sure how many people that fall into that category.

It seems so clear when you cut through all the STY's horseshit diversions.

Y-E-S...people priced out since the inception of Obamacare have been priced out due to INSURANCE COMPANY GREED.

Greedy insurers, desperate to get one more feeding at the trough before Obamacare begins to reign in their gluttony RAISED THEIR RATES and priced out MILLIONS who could afford insurance before.

funny that you call my honest predictions a 'horseshit diversion', especially when several of us told you this would happen and you said that it would not. but fuck them, right? many millions are now insured and those others will just have to suffer. how do you plan to blame that on republicans now?

So you've been saying that Insurance Company GREED would keep millions from buying insurance?

It's about time you started putting the blame where it belongs.

Rick Scott grudgingly admits Obamacare would help the uninsured in Florida. Wonder if any of those other bloviaters (such as our bloviater-in-chief Tom Corbett) will come to the same conclusion.

" A bitter critic of Obamacare, Florida Governor Rick Scott announced a surprising change of opinion on Wednesday, saying he would back an expansion of Medicaid in the state. The Tampa Bay Times called it an "amazing policy reversal." Scott had derided the program as a "job killer" and said last summer that the state would opt out of the expansion, a key part of President Obama's health-care reform. [...]

"It is not a white flag of surrender to government-run health care," Scott said. "While the federal government is committed to paying 100% of the cost of new people in Medicaid, I cannot, in good conscience, deny the uninsured access to care."

A little spin goin' on here perhaps ?

Did Rick Scott EVER SAY THAT Obamacare would NOT help the uninsured?

What he did say is that it will be a job killer and too expensive to take on....that didn't change...

Of course, any give aways to the public will be to their advantage....welfare, unemploy. comp., rent assistance, etc. etc. etc.....we all know that....
If that wasn't true, the welfare programs wouldn't work as well as they do in 'buying' their votes.

nice try at both a strawman and your own 'horseshit diversion'. we already knew that insurance company greed was pricing people out of insurance. what you were told was that your craptastic obamacare would move the goal posts and create a whole new class of people that would get priced out of their insurance coverage AND would find themselves in a category that wouldn't allow a subsidy. now maybe you can accept your responsibility for that, or you can continue to say 'fuck them, look what we did do!!!!', but that would mean admitting that you really don't give a fuck about people, just your own socialist agenda.
