I enjoyed their music back in the 60's! Rest in Peace Soul Man!

I came into adulthood in the mid to late sixties,
and where R&B was concerned,
I was far more enamored of the horn-heavy Stax-Volt / Atlantic sound
than the more "poppish" Motown sound which more people seem to remember today.

Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Aretha, Sam & Dave, Eddie Floyd, and the like performed my very favorite kind of "rock" music.

I liked other stuff too--jazz noir, Sinatra, et al--but when it came to my own generation's music, I loved the Memphis-Muscle Shoals sound
the most--more than Motown, more than British Invasion, more than folk-rock or psychedelic rock-- it was just my favorite.

Unlike so many performers of his generation, Sam had a good long life--RIP, Soul Man.
