Ron DeSantis strips more than $32m in Florida arts funding

this thread is an example of liberal hate and intolerance

it's a red state, being ran the way conservatives wish to be governed. the vitriol is your bigotry bubbling to the surface

Gavin Newsom proposed massive cuts to the arts budget in California and after huge complaints is now only cutting the budget by 25%. But based on some of the responses here how could he do even that?

If that makes it easier for Florida to meet its budget and keeps taxes low, hooray for Florida! Arts and cultural funding are a luxury, not a necessity. Just because some festival is popular doesn't mean the government should be financing it. If it's that popular, let it finance itself selling tickets to participants and charging a fee for vendors and groups providing content.

The arts are as much a "necessity" in life as science. The support is being stripped from "a diverse array of groups including youth orchestras and choirs, museums, art galleries, dance troupes, zoos, cinemas and community theaters."

Kind of what you might expect from Republican government in Florida.

If money is being misappropriated then funding should be cut... I imagine that was one of the considerations when the governor took this action... If groups can provide documentation that the money is Being allocated properly I would hope they can reapply for grants and have them approved...

If art is good the government does not need to force people to fun it.
Many of the high quality, high spending tourists would like to spend one of their days of vacation at an art museum. It is a small price to pay for better tourists. Instead, DeSantis would rather spend the money on drinking contests, and the type of tourists that invites.

Don't worry, I am sure you will be able to make up for the shortfall in tourism with higher taxes.
