Russian mercenary chief says fighters to leave Ukraine's Bakhmut to 'lick wounds'

(Reuters) -Yevgeny Prigozhin, leader of Russia's Wagner Group mercenary force, said in a dramatic announcement on Friday that his forces would pull out of the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut that they have been trying to capture since last summer.

Prigozhin said they would withdraw on May 10 - ending their involvement in the longest and bloodiest battle of the war - because of heavy losses and inadequate ammunition supplies. He asked defence chiefs to insert regular army troops in their place.

In a war of attrition, Russia will lose.

While Russia still thinks of itself as a global superpower, its GDP is lower than that of Texas or New York or California.

How in the world do you think Ukraine has more supplies than Russia?

Ukraine is running out of soldiers and they aren’t getting enough to replace them while Russia has around 25 million conscripts they can call up whenever they want

Russia has also only committed about 10% of their military forces to this fight

Really?

LOL

Earlier on Friday he appeared in a video surrounded by dozens of corpses he said were Wagner fighters, and was shown yelling and swearing at Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu and Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov with whom he has a long-running feud.

"We have a 70% shortage of ammunition. Shoigu! Gerasimov! Where is the ******* ammunition?" he shouted into the camera.

And a year since Putin's invasion that he said would be over in a few days

Wagner Group warlord records profanity-laced rant directed at 'scumbag' Russian military leaders

The Wagner group announced a retreat from the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut in an expletive-laden video as tensions between the mercenaries and the Russian Ministry of Defense continue to peak.

"Their blood is still fresh, and now, listen to me, b----," Yevgeny Prigozhin, Wagner’s founder and leader, said in a video as he walked among the bodies of dead soldiers. "These are someone’s fathers and someone’s sons."

"And those [expletive] who don’t give us ammunition will burn in Hell, eating their guts, [expletive]," he continued, aiming his rant at Sergei Shoigu, the Russian defense minister, and Valery Gerasimov, the chief of the general staff. "We have a 70% shortage of ammunition. Shoigu, Gerasimov, where is the ammunition? Look at them, b----!"

Funny how he is very careful not to criticize Vlad Putin, who is ultimately responsible for the actions of the defense ministry

NATO needs to accelerate its rate of providing arms to Ukraine . If they trickle them out Russia will be able to keep up. If the surge weapons Russia can't keep up.

How much do you have to pay Wagner soldiers to fight and die?
The Wagner boss is talking about not having enough ammunition. Send them to fight and don't supply them.

Because we are supplying them. Are you not involved in participating in today's actual current events or are you just ignorant of the fact that we send hundreds of billions of dollars to Ukraine?

First of all don’t believe most news sources since they are openly lying about the war because they don’t want you to know how bad it is for Ukraine.

Secondly, Putin is purposefully taking his time. He is in no rush and it doesn’t matter if the war takes three or five years because he knows Russia will get it eventually.

Thirdly, Putin is going slow because if he takes it too rapidly then it would probably trigger the western powers to rush to defend them out of fear.

So these reports about shortages or battle losses are irrelevant to Putins long term plans.

There is absolutely no way Ukraine wins this without massive western support and that is what Putin is trying to prevent.

Believe me, when Putin thinks it’s safe to do so then Russia will swoop in and have the country in a matter of weeks.

His ultimate goal as well as most of the leadership is to rebuild the Soviet Union but it needs time and lots of strategy

Which is the only reason they are hanging on but that support will eventually dry up so Russia is just patiently waiting.

Ukraine is begging for supplies because those funds are not enough to actually help them win, it’s just keeping them afloat.

Someone fighting for his home and family fights harder than a conscript that does not want to be there.

Putin's politics is the furthest thing from the Soviet Union as one can get

That’s exactly what he wants the world to believe .

Once Russia take’s Ukraine then Belarus will join as they are already in Putins back pocket followed by Latvia and Estonia and Lithuania

After that he moves south to grab the Balkan states with the exception of Greece obviously

Ukraine is the gateway though as they are the strongest so once they fall the rest will have little will to fight
