Russian sailors evacuate warship in the Black Sea after Ukraine attack;

Actually this is a home grown missile called the Neptune.

On April 13, 2022, during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Russian cruiser Moskva was hit by two Neptune missiles, resulting in an ammunition explosion.[11][12][13] However, the Russian Defense Ministry said that a fire had caused munitions to explode and the crew had been fully evacuated. This was clearly reported in all international press for a number of days at the time of the event.[14] Russia reports the vessel as still being afloat.[15]

Design
When deployed, a Neptune coastal defence system comprises a USPU-360 truck-based mobile launcher, four missiles, a TZM-360 transport/reload vehicle, a RCP-360 command and control vehicle, and a special cargo vehicle. The system is designed to operate up to 25 kilometres (16 mi) inland of the coastline.[3]

A Neptune missile including rocket motor is 5.05 metres (199 in) in length, with a cross-shaped hard wing. Neptune missiles are designed to be housed in transport and launch containers (TLC) with dimensions 5.30 by 0.60 by 0.60 metres (209 in × 24 in × 24 in). The system has a maximum range of about 300 kilometres (190 mi).[16][17] A single missile weighs 870 kilograms (1,920 lb), of which 150 kilograms (330 lb) is the warhead.[3]

The technology of war is rapidly changing. Not everything that the Ukrainians try will work, but if enough of it does, Russia will pay the price.

The Russians did win the naval wars of Great Northern War, Russo-Swedish War, and the Russo-Turkish war. One of the weirder wars that they did not actually technically fight was the American Civil War.

The Russian Navy would often have a problem with getting frozen into many of their ports, so they liked to winter in foreign ports. In 1863, they wintered in New York and San Fransisco. It was a threat against the British or the French fighting for the Confederacy, and may have contributed to those powers not joining the war. If the Russians had not supported the USA, there is a possibility the Confederates would have won.

But other than the period from 1700 to 1863, Russia was not a great or even mediocre naval power. They were always more of a land power.

You're right , it's a fucking tragedy. Imagine all that shit poisoning the marine and coastal environment for years to come.

Of course, if it turns out that it was sunk by a missile then that surely marks the end of warships of any description as useful tools in war. Slow, impossible to conceal and extremely vulnerable. This one would have had state-of-the-art defensive counter measures. The Brits' ships got slaughtered in the Falklands by simple French Exocets. That should have been warning enough, right there.
Aircraft carriers ? Even juicier targets.

On the other hand , it may have suffered the damage that the Russians describe.
