Russia's army could collapse amid huge losses of more than 30,000 troops

I am "Joe voter," and the difference matters to me. I admit that from your perch in Russia, it probably all looks the same. The only real candidate there is Putin, after all, and he's a billionaire. But here in the US, we have options.

City donations worth £15m raise concerns over influence on UK politics

Over there they have a publication or two that isn't owned by sleazy American billionaires, Joe.

Haw, haw...............................haw.

No, ' we' don't.

Perhaps you don't, since you aren't here. But we Americans have distinctly different options in each election.

Joe Voter you ain't

I'm a lifelong American citizen and regular voters in our elections. How do you define "Joe Voter" if it doesn't include people like me?

No wonder that the mere thought of Socialism scares the ass off you

You are having a debate with someone who exists only in your own mind. I have never said a word to suggest socialism scares me. In fact, when I've posted about it, I've argued that it is a necessary ingredient in any high-functioning economic system.

Super PACs
For years, activists have complained about the unregulated flow of money in US elections and the undue influence it grants corporations and special interest groups over the democratic process.

Under US law, political action committees – commonly referred to as PACs – and individuals can contribute only limited funds directly to political candidates.

However, in a 2010 decision, the Supreme Court ruled that free speech protections guaranteed by the First Amendment of the US Constitution give entities the right to spend unlimited amounts of money to oppose or support candidates.

And so- Joe voter became disenfranchised in America by AIPAC cash.

US ' democracy ' stinks.

Our rich are already planning their escape to a private island.

Why on earth would the rich want to "escape" to a private island? There would be no one there to serve them. There would be nothing to buy. They would want to escape to a stable island with stable people, like say New Zealand (actually two major islands, but you get the point.)

The rich are more dependent on others than the poor, so want to have others around them.

You think that they wouldn't install their flunkies and everything they could ever use in a lifetime ?

Let's say Bezos puts on an island everything he will need in a lifetime. If he has a heart attack, he will need a team of heart surgeons along with a group of people with his exact blood and tissue type. He will need a huge industry to produce the different types of medications and equipment that these surgeons might need. They need to practice regularly, so he needs millions of people developing heart attacks on a regular basis. And let's say he get cancer...

Literally, he would need millions of people to support his lifestyle, and even just survival. He can either move 5 million people to an island or two in the Pacific, or just move to New Zealand where it already is setup for him.

Or put another way, there are many Russian billionaires who wish they had gotten US citizenship before all this happened, because the USA is a much better place escape to than Russia.

What a bizarre fantasy. Do you think that the point was worth ridiculing yourself for ?

Strawman.

Escaping societal collapse by going to an abandoned island simply does not work. The way to escape societal collapse is by either finding a new society to join, or by creating a new society to join. There is no way to specialize in everything, so you need a large group of people who can specialize in other things. The larger the groups of people is, the more prosperous you can be.

Hermits, shamans, yogis and mystics might disagree.
