The woman in the video has no right to claim the flag for herself. The flag is a symbol of America. America includes whites, minorities, Republicans, Democrats, independents, everybody.
She has no more right to claim the flag for herself or her party than Trump does.
And yes, it is disgusting for Trump to disrespect the flag by hugging it. He is not embracing America when he does that. He is using the flag as a ploy to gain the support of those who think the flag only represents THEM. This is no more respect for the flag than the car lot with 47 flags all flying over foreign cars. Or the giant American flag standing over an auto dealership. They are not supporting America by having that flag. They are using it as an attention-getter to try to sell cars. They are trying to make buyers feel comfortable, feel more American, if they come buy a car. It's crass.
That is not respecting the flag.
You don't see the court building or the US Post office flying 47 flags or a giant oversized flag just to get attention. That's not what the symbol of our nation is for. They fly a single normal sized flag because they are an official part of America.
The woman in the video and the people using flags as shawls are not an official part of America. They are simply part of it. They could wear red white and blue themes if they want to wear their colors on their sleeves, but they should have more respect for the flag. Even waving cheesy little hand-held flags is not showing proper respect.
When the soldiers at Arlington perform their somber ceremony and remove a flag from a casket and carefully fold it up, they are wearing spotless uniforms and every movement is carefully rehearsed and coordinated. That flag is then presented to the primary survivor of the deceased with the utmost respect.
THAT.
That is showing proper respect for the flag.
The yee haw who sticks it on the back of his pickup truck and lets it drag across the bed, in the dirt?
THAT is showing DISRESPECT.
All those cheesy plastic flags people stick in their car window to get flapped to death on the interstate?
DISRESPECTFUL.
Anybody who lives America should take the time to learn how to show proper respect for the flag.
And there are a LOT of Trump fans, including Trump himself (who is his own BIGGEST FAN) who simply do not know how to show proper respect for our flag.

The best way to preserve that which the American flag represents is to add two more stars for the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. In terms of the overall electorate, America's fascist red states are radically over-represented in the Senate. Four more Democratic votes in the Senate might actually save the republic that Mitch and the orangutan Trump are so efficiently destroying.

This right here^^^^is why this country is in deep shit. When the very simple concept of protesting a policy that is not aligned with what the flag is supposed to represent is looked upon as disrespect for the flag itself, you know we have a very severe lack of common sense within a portion of the population.
It was done while the National Anthem was played and the flag displayed. It could have been done at halftime or after the game ended.
It was done to disrespect the flag and as a Veteran and an American, I resent it.
They don’t love authoritarian rule like you do.
Oh please. It's okay to invite foreign adversarial dictators to screw with democracy but its not okay for Americans with a moral compass to protest a really bad policy. The flag is no more than a rag if does not represent integrity and social justice. Give it a rest already. And that nation anthem sucks and should be switched out for a more appropriate piece of music and it all means squat anyway if the USA continues down this path to fascism run by an authoritarian and an oligarchy.
