SC Dems uphold US Senate primary shocker

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina Democratic Party officials on Thursday upheld a surprising U.S. Senate primary win by an unemployed military veteran, nixing a protest lodged by their favored candidate that could have required a new vote.

The party's executive committee decided there was not enough evidence of impropriety to nullify the June 8 election victory by Alvin Greene, a 32-year-old who lives with his father and waged no visible campaign against a former lawmaker.

Greene did not attend the meeting and nobody spoke on his behalf. Reached afterward by phone, he reiterated one of his few, common public statements about his candidacy.

"I am the best candidate in the U.S. Senate race in South Carolina. Let's stop my opponent from reversing forward progress in the United States and South Carolina," he said.

if a repub had challenged this, you bet cries of racism would be sung from coast to coast

keep burning that race card dems....it has little if any value now, and someday....like marther luther king junior envisioned, people will be judged not on the color of their skin, but by the content of their character....

You're an idiot. If Republicans like you spent as much time worrying about actual racism against black people instead of worrying about relatively non-existent racism against white people and calling out Democrats for hypocrisy on race, the GOP might get a little more support from black people.

The dude who won and they challenged was black. I think he was saying that if an R challenged an election won by a black man that some people here would be singing a different tune. :dunno:

Of course I had no idea his opponent was white. Seriously, I think this is funny, but certainly not racism and it looks like Desh needs to get over here and start talking about those crappy machines...

Yes, to me racism is a political prop. That's why I post about hypothetical scenarios just so I can try to criticize some political group I dislike for being hypocrites on racial issues. Oh, wait . . . that's you, not me.

I know what he was doing. He was crafting a hypothetical scenario that would never happen (first, you'd have to find some black Republican candidates and second, they'd have to win. That never happens) just so he can bludgeon his political opponents as race-baiters.

As I said, if Republicans like Yurt cared half as much about real racism as they do about hypothetical bullshit they might make some inroads with minority voters.


Edit: I think it's pretty funny, too. The current working theory among people looking at this case is that in an election with a bunch of unknown candidates, the name appearing at the top of the ballot has a distinct advantage.

yes, you're right...racism is nothing but a political prop for you. your so called hypos don't change that. the fact is, my hypo is an actual reality. and history shows i am right. if you are going to be naive and claim that racism would never have cropped into the discussion had the dem been a repub, you are either a dumb follower or a liar...virtually the ONLY time race has come up is when it is repub vs. dem....

I thought the funniest part was when they claimed this guy was a Republican plant.....think about it, the Republicans plant a guy in the campaign, spend zero effort in promoting him (no ads, no website, no public appearances) and 60% of the SC Dems fall for it?......and they think that doesn't make Dems look even worse?.........
