Catholic school apologizes for putting fried chicken on Black History Month menu

A group of students at the Carondelet High School added fried chicken, cornbread, and watermelon to the school menu in honor of Black History Month. After critics slammed the move as subtle racism, the school canceled the meal.

Administrators at Carondelet High School For Girls are facing questions after announcing that it would celebrate Black History Month by having a special lunch of fried chicken, cornbread, and watermelon.



A California high school is under fire for a lunchtime faux pas.

Some parents and pupils at Carondelet High School were offended after finding out the all-girls school planned to serve up fried chicken, cornbread, and watermelon to celebrate Black History Month.

Carondelet promptly removed the meal from its menu and apologized for the decision, NBC Bay Area reports. The school also held a diversity assembly on Wednesday.

"I'd like to apologize for the announcement and any hurt this caused students, parents or community members," Principal Nancy Libby said in an apology letter sent to parents. "Please know that at no time at Carondelet do we wish to perpetrate racial stereotypes."

The idea was suggested by a group of students at the Concord school who were brainstorming ways to honor black culture. But the well-intentioned students stumbled into a complicated history.

our country is much more racially diverse. we aren't uppity fucks that need cameras watching us take dumps or having an opt-in clause to view porn on the internet, or have the government threatening to shut down the guardian because it said things they didn't like. In america, those 3 food items have been used in the past in a completely racist context. Sooooo it's kinda racist. But still delicious. Delicious racism.

To honor Black History Month is to actually discuss those Americans that changed the course of history not food. Every Black person doesn't eat fried chicken just like watermelon. I hate watermelon, though I love watermelon flavored drinks. I think instead of trying to guess what all blacks like to eat they should focus on the Americans that helped other Americans achieve success.

I'm white and chicken is my favorite food. In fact I eat it all the time. Only difference for health reasons I don't do fried chicken.

We don't have metal detectors and armed guards in schools, people who think shooting babies is a fair price to pay for having civilians with military weapons or lunatics like Rune or Dantes. As for your country being more racially diverse, that is just absurd which you would know if you ever came here.

we are way more racially diverse than your shitty country tom. we don't have metal detectors at schools tom. maybe a few here and there but not the vast majority. I know you probably think we just have military with assault rifles everywhere in america but we don't.
